The York Theatre is the
only theatre in New York City (and one of very few in the country)
dedicated to developing and fully producing new musicals and preserving
notable shows from the past. As with most not-for-profit arts organizations,
the York has felt the past year's economic pinch, but has continued
to produce and nurture new musicals. For more than three decades,
the York has become a mainstay in the New York theatre scene, producing
dozens of readings of works-in-progress, revisiting under appreciated
musicals from the past in its "Musicals in Mufti" series and proudly
administering the Oscar Hammerstein Award for Lifetime Achievementin
Musical Theatre.
