THE STOREFRONT presents NEWER SUNDAYS HERE

Sundays in January at 5:00 pm featuring the music of new and established songwriters and composers.

The Storefront's (http://www.storefronttheatre.com/) new NEWER SUNDAYS series, featuring new and established songwriters and composers, kicks off on Sunday, January 8th at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 1-212-255-5438 - http://www.theduplex.com/), featuring the marvelous Mark Hartman, with music from his up-coming musical projects. On January 19th, The Storefront is pleased to welcome Laurence O'Keefe, the noted author of "Bat Boy" and "Sarah, Plain and Tall." To close the first round of the series, Georgia Stitt, noted composer and musical director, will present an evening of her music with celebrated guest performers on January 26th. All performances are at 5:00 pm, and there is a $12 cover and 2-drink minimum.

In June of 2001, The Storefront Theatre launched a series called NEW MONDAYS. The idea was simple - invite both up-and-coming, as well as prominently established musical legends to debut some of their new compositions in front of a live audience. What followed was five months of sold out shows, featuring fifty-seven composers premiering new work. Participants in the first rounds of NEW MONDAYS include Henry Krieger, Tom Jones, Charles Strouse, Carol Hall, William Finn, Frank Wildhorn, Julie Gold, Dick Scanlan, David Friedman, Michael John LaChiusa, Jason Robert Brown, John Wallowitch, Stephen Schwartz, John Bucchino and Andrew Lippa, as well as many noted newer composers.

Following the success of New Mondays, The Storefront was looking for a way to more prominently feature the work of some of the composers with whom they had worked. Hence: NEWER SUNDAYS... The idea is that folks who have already been through the NEW MONDAYS series will be invited to feature their work in a one-hour format.

Most recently, NEW MONDAYS has been awarded the NIGHTLIFE AWARD, an awards program that salutes the best in jazz, cabaret and comedy. An illustrious panel comprising the most influential critics from the New York press chooses the award recipients. The Nightlife Awards will be presented on Monday, January 27th at Town Hall.
