Sampson Returns to Brave the Elements

Sampson's show "Braving the Elements" returns to DON'T TELL MAMA (343
West 46th Street, NYC - 1-212-757-0788 - http://www.donttellmama.com/)
for four more performances, beginning Saturday, November 29th at 4:00
pm. Additional shows are Thursday, December 4th at 9:00 pm, Tuesday,
January 6th at 6:30 pm and Saturday, January 10 that 4:00 pm. Ms.
Sampson will be accompanied on piano by her musical director, David
Maiocco, and by Skip Ward on bass. Lina Koutrakos directs. There is
a $15 cover charge ($10 for members of MAC and CABARET
HOTLINE ONLINE) and a 2-drink minimum.
The show
feature songs by James Taylor, Kurt Weill, Joan Armatrading, Antonio
Carlos Jobim and Mary Liz McNamara, among others. It also introduces
"Can You Hear Me in Your Dreams," a new song written by Ms. Sampson
and Mr. Maiocco, which has been singled out by critics as a highlight
of the evening.
Ms. Sampson
first presented "Braving the Elements" to popular and critical acclaim
in June and July of this year. In September she brought the show to
the Hackensack, New Jersey Cultural Arts Center as part of their annual
cabaret series. Her previous show, "First Person Singular," enjoyed
an extended run at Don't Tell Mama in 2002 and early 2003, and her
show "All That I Want" ran at Judy's Chelsea in the fall of 2001.
Active in cabaret since 1999, she has also performed in a number of
showcases and revues at Don't Tell Mama and The Duplex, and has appeared
as a guest artist in Ron Poole's "Poole Party," Courtney Knowles'
"Courtney Loves Comedy," and most recently in Jonathan Frank's show
"Some Kind of Music."
Mr. Maiocco
is the recipient of both the MAC and the Bistro Award for his work
as musical director and arranger. In addition to working with Ms.
Sampson, he is currently musical director for Nancy McGraw, Eric Pickering,
Tommy Femia as Judy Garland and Chuck Sweeney as Peggy Lee.
