Sherman at Larry's Music Room in London
A
regular favorite at the Algonquin's famous Oak Room and the Waldorf
Astoria, New York singer and pianist Daryl Sherman will return for
two weeks, April 23rd through May 3rd, at Larry's Music Room at PIZZA
ON THE PARK (11 Knightsbridge, Hyde Park Corner, London - 020-7235-5273),
with Dave Green on bass and on guitar, John Wheatley from Boston who
appeared in the UK last summer with Ruby Braff. The room opens 7:00
pm and Daryl will play two sets, at 9:15 and 10:45 pm.
Daryl Sherman has also
charmed her growing UK audience with appearances at Brecon, Blackpool
and Edinburgh and is now back to perform her special and eclectic
repertoire. Sherman is equally strong as singer and instrumentalist
with a gift for communication and her own distinctive sound. Her internationally
acclaimed recordings have garnered four stars in Downbeat and 'Year's
Best' in Jazz Journal International.
With a brand new spring
CD release "A HUNDRED MILLION MIRACLES: THE MUSIC OF RICHARD RODGERS"
(Arbors) Ms. Sherman offers unique takes on familiar gems, finding
new facets, and also uncovers some buried treasure. Jazz greats Ruby
Braff, Bob Dorough and Houston Person contribute sparkling guest cameos
in this centennial tribute to a master composer who with Lorenz Hart,
Oscar Hammerstein and Stephen Sondheim, wrote some of the most enduring
and beloved songs of the 20th century.
Along with selections
from the new CD, Ms. Sherman will focus on other miracle music-makers
like Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, even some Noel Coward; and for
her second show, a tribute to Cole Porter (whose antique Steinway
she plays regularly at the Waldorf Astoria).
Daryl Sherman also appears
in concert on May 7th at Leeds College of Music and May 10th at Taliesin
Arts Centre, University of Swansea.
