Bobby Short, Barbara Carroll and Ann Hampton Callaway to Compare Notes

92nd Street Y Presents A Conversation Hosted by WNYC's Leonard Lopate

On Sunday, April 27th, at 7:30 pm, the 92nd St. Y (92nd Street at Lexington Avenue, NYC - 212-415-5500 - http://www.92ndsty.org/) will gives cabaret fans chance to listen in as Leonard Lopate talks with three of New York's biggest names in cabaret, Bobby Short, Barbara Carroll and Ann Hampton Callaway, about their amazing careers. Due to a conflict in scheduling, Barbara Cook will NOT appear on this panel, as originally announced. Tickets are $22.

How does Bobby Short feel about being a cabaret institution? And how has he managed to rack up an amazing 35 seasons at the Cafe Carlyle? (He opens there May 6th.) Not bad for a guy born in Illinois who taught himself to play and sing by ear.

How has Barbara Carroll managed to excel in the worlds of jazz piano and popular song? How has she developed her elegant style? How does she feel about collecting three awards this year for lifetime achievement? (She'll receive the Kennedy Center's "Mary Lou Williams Women in Jazz" Award, as well as Lifetime honors from MAC Awards and the Back Stage Bistro Awards.) She's just finished her record-breaking 24th annual run at the famed Bemelmans Bar in the Carlyle Hotel, but how is she enjoying her current stint at Birdland (selected Wednesdays through June 4)?

How does Ann Hampton Callaway feel about being Cole Porter's only "officially recognized" songwriting partner? How did she get Barbra Streisand to ask her to write songs for her? And how can she possibly balance performing, songwriting, television appearances and her own Satellite radio show - and still have time to work in education, communicating the magic of cabaret to the next generation? (She's nominated for a MAC Award for Best Major Artist Recording of the Year).
