"GUESS
WHO'S BACK IN TOWN?" IT'S BOBBY SHORT!

Celebrating
His 35th Fall Season at Cafe Carlyle
All
of New York night-life lovers are celebrating Bobby Short's spectacular
return to The Carlyle, with a new show titled "Guess Who's Back in
Town?" Mr. Short has begun his 35th fall season at THE CAFE CARLYLE
(35 East 76th Street, NYC - 1-212-744-1600 - http://www.thecarlyle.com/cal.cfm).
As energetic and animated as ever, Bobby continues to delight audiences
with his inimitable interpretations of early 20th century favorites.
From October 14th through New Year's Eve 2003, he performs Tuesday
through Thursday at 8:45 pm and on Friday and Saturday with two shows
at 8:45 pm and 10:45 pm The cover charge is $75 per person. Dinner
is served at 7:00 pm
Open since
the 1950s, Cafe Carlyle has been synonymous with urbane Manhattan
elegance since Short's first performance at his favorite "saloon"
in 1968. Now, 35 years later, having been named both a Living Landmark
by New York's Landmark Conservancy and a National Living Legend by
the Library of Congress, Bobby Short can be credited with carrying
the mantle of classic cabaret songs into the 21st century.
Drawing on
his deep knowledge of everything from Broadway to jazz to soulful
blues, Mr. Short thrills cafe guests with his famous gravely voice
shifting from soft whispers to spirited shouts. Accompanied by a lively
nine-piece orchestra led by distinguished conductor Loren Schoenberg,
his repertoire of Porter, Gershwin, and Ellington standards mixed
with more obscure gems will resonate with audiences both young and
old.
This fall,
in honor of Bobby Short's 35th year performing at Cafe Carlyle, the
street at Madison Avenue and 76th Street, where The Carlyle is located,
is now officially named "Bobby Short Place." His handprints are immortalized
in the sidewalk as well.
Standing
at the corner of 76th Street and Madison Avenue, The Carlyle has been
an enduring landmark for East Side social life since 1930. The Carlyle
is a 35-story, 180-room hotel surrounded by galleries, designer boutiques
and the city's most popular museums. Embracing a passion for the arts,
pianos grace 23 of the suites.
