KEELY
SMITH SWINGS BASIE-STYLE at FEINSTEIN'S
FEINSTEIN'S
at the Regency Hotel (540 Park Avenue, NYC - 1-212-339-4095 - http://www.feinsteinsattheregency.com/)
will present the return engagement of swing legend Keely Smith from
April 29th through May 17th. Her show "KEELY SWINGS BASIE-STYLE,"
based on her latest CD from Concord Records, is a tribute to Count
Basie, the legendary band leader and her personal friend. Her new
show includes classic songs like "April in Paris," "Love For Sale,"
and "One For My Baby," as well as swinging versions of more contemporary
tunes, including "How Sweet It Is" and "Can't Take My Eyes Off You."
She will be joined by a nine-piece big band with musical direction
by Dennis Michaels. The show will play the following schedule: Tuesday
through Saturday at 8:30 PM with a late show on Friday and Saturday
at 11:00 PM. All shows have a $60 cover and $30 minimum.
Ms. Smith has enjoyed
incredible popularity, commercial success and historic achievement
throughout a career that has spanned nearly half a century. She is
one of America's greatest living balladeers, the First Lady of Las
Vegas and an icon of the swing era. Most recently, the revival of
the swing movement introduced a whole new generation to the excitement
and fun of her music. In the late 90s, The Gap retail chain was inspired
to use Louis Prima's signature tune, "Jump, Jive and Wail" in one
of its popular ad campaigns. Keely began her career as the female
singer in Prima's band, and later became famous as one half of their
hugely successful Las Vegas lounge act. Now, with recent smash engagements
around the country, her performance career continues to thrive. Her
classic recordings, including I Wish You Love (a Grammy Award nominated
gold album with Nelson Riddle) and Politely with the Billy May orchestra,
have been featured in films such as The Deer Hunter, Raging Bull,
Analyze This and Mad Dog & Glory.
Her latest CD on Concord
Records, "Keely Swings Basie-Style ... With Strings," is the third
in a series of recordings that honor men who have had a tremendous
effect on, and personal connection to, Keely's life. Her 2000 Concord
debut, "Swing, Swing, Swing," was an unofficial testament to her former
husband and performing partner, Louis Prima. Its successor, "Keely
Sings Sinatra," earned her a Grammy Award nomination for "Best Traditional
Pop" CD in 2001.
