STEVEN RAY WATKINS IN SOLO CABARET DEBUT AT MAMA ROSE'S

Bistro Award winner Steven Ray Watkins makes his solo cabaret debut with "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters .... Just a Few Of My Good Friends" at MAMA ROSE'S (219 Second Avenue, NYC - 212-533-0558 - http://www.mamaroses.net/) on Mondays, October 13th, 20th, 27th and November 3rd, all shows at 7:00 pm. Mr. Watkins will be playing and singing songs that recall his friends and influences over the years. The band consists of Joe Mowatt on drums, Kyle Sanna on guitar, and Michael Blanco on bass, with backing vocals by Karen Mack and Lennie Watts. Direction is also by Mr. Watts. The cover is $15, $10 for CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE and MAC members, and there is a 2-drink minimum.

Mr. Watkins has been acclaimed in the past for his musical direction and arrangements for such cabaret performers as Lennie Watts, Scott Coulter, Natalie Blalock and Georga Osborne, plus work on the World Cabaret series at Town Hall with Louise Pitre and Karen Mason. The composers being represented in the show include Billy Joel, Tom Waits, Elton John, and Watkins himself.

Steven Ray Watkins has been playing the piano and singing for 35 years. As an actor he has appeared in "The Last Session," "Jesus Christ Superstar," "42nd Street" and national tours of "Showboat," "Big," and "Singing in the Rain." In the mid-80's he was the lead singer of the rock group Ampersand, touring the country and recording for two years before folding. And as a composer he is represented on record by the song "Give Me A Voice" on Lennie Watts' CD, "I Want ... You Want," and recently had a song premiered by Michael Vaccaro, "Child Of The Seventies," in the show of the same name.
