JOHN ABERNATHY TO APPEAR AT CLUB CAFE

Singer/pianist John Abernathy will present his first solo cabaret show "A Cock-Eyed Optimist" at CLUB CAFE (209 Columbus Avenue, Boston, MA - 617-536-0966 - http://www.clubcafe.com/ ) on Sunday, November 7th at 7:00 pm. "A Cock-Eyed Optimist" is an uplifting evening of self-discovery with music by Richard Rodgers, Jerry Herman, Burton Lane, Stephen Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein, Irving Berlin, and more. An added feature of this performance is that John will be stepping away from the piano and will be accompanied by Tom LaMark. The show is directed by Ida Zecco. There is a $12 cover, no minimum, no reservations required.

Originally from Tennessee now living in Rhode Island, John Abernathy worked many years in theatre as an actor/singer/dancer/musician. Some of his theatre roles included Tony in West Side Story, Finch in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and L.M. in Pump Boys and Dinettes. He toured internationally as pianist and soloist with the musical group "Up With People" including a performance with the National Symphony in Constitution Hall.

As a cabaret artist, Mr. Abernathy has performed in several musical revues including The Holy Smokes Revue (Tom Lehrer) and By Gershwin with Florida Studio Theatre, Sweet and Hot (Harold Arlen) with Prologue Theatre in Chicago, and Stardust Night and Day (Hoagy Carmichael and Cole Porter). He has also made guest appearances with Jan Peters at the ENCORE LOUNGE at The Windham Tremont House (275 Tremont Street, Boston, MA - 617-426-1400) and Honey West at GENTRY ON HALSTED (3320 North Halsted Street, Chicago, IL - 773-348-1053 - http://www.gentryofchicago.com/ ). John is a member of the BACA (Boston Association of Cabaret Artists - http://www.bostoncabaret.com/ ).
