Young And Foolish: A 50th Birthday Cabaret in Boston

Boston cabaret vocalist Sophia Bilides will celebrate reaching the half-century mark, in her new show titled Young And Foolish: A 50th Birthday Cabaret, with the Tom LaMark Trio on Wednesday, June 16th at 8:00 pm at SCULLERS JAZZ CLUB (400 Soldiers Field Road, Allston, MA - 617-562-4111 - http://www.scullersjazz.com/ ). Tickets are $18 show, $53 dinner & show package available.

Despite the special occasion, the show will not focus on "the age issue." Instead, Ms. Bilides will offer a light-hearted program about living life to the fullest, asking the all-important question posed by one of the songs: Are You Having Any Fun? The evening will gently tweak the ethnic past (the comical Dinner Party and a Greek-style Come On-a My House), examine present relationships (the charming That's Him and outrageous Viagra In The Waters), and voice hope for the future (the yearning Flight and optimistic Here's To Life). She will offer advice via romantic encounters (Capuccino), sexy legends (Put The Blame On Mame), loving animals (At The Pound), and envious pals (Every Time A Friend Succeeds). Guided by her trademark blend of humor and realism (It Isn't so Good It Couldn't Get Better, It Isn't So Bad It Couldn't Be Worse), Bilides acknowledges that it's a challenge at any age to heed our inner voice (Listen Here) and to stay Young And Foolish.

The eclectic and mostly contemporary songlist will feature the wit and wisdom of Alan & Marilyn Bergman, Francesca Blumenthal, Leslie Bricusse, Craig Carnelia, Cy Coleman, Sammy Fain, Doris Fisher, Dave Frishberg, Amanda Green, Fran Landesman, Michel Legrand, Steven Lutvak, Henry Mancini, Johnny Mercer, Alan Menken, Ogden Nash, Stephen Schwartz, Camille West, Maury Yeston, and more.

Sophia Bilides has performed annually at Scullers Jazz Club in Boston for the past 5 years, in programs which explore the work of America's great songwriters. Her 2003 show Witchcraft: The Lyrics Of Carolyn Leigh, was endorsed by the Leigh Estate. Her show Make Someone Happy: The Songs of Comden & Green earned her an IRNE Award Nominee for Best Female Cabaret Artist, and was named one of 2002's Top Ten Cabaret Events by Bay Windows. Bilides is also the founder and Artistic Director of the Boston Cabaret Festival, a multi-singer event which she has hosted for the past 3 years.
