Boston
to Celebrate "March is Cabaret Month"

In
honor of "March is Cabaret Month," BACA (Boston Association of Cabaret
Artists - http://www.bostoncabaret.com/)
will hold a celebration and media showcase featuring performances
by some of Boston's best known Cabaret performers, including: Kathy
St. George, Jan Peters, Ida Zecco, Ben Sears & Brad Conner, Brian
De Lorenzo, Bobbi Carrey & Will McMillan, Krisanthi Pappas, the Fabulous
Baker Sisters, and Celia Slattery. Nick Dussault will emcee. The event
will be held on Monday, March 8th, starting at 7:00 pm at THE INTERNATIONAL
RESTAURANT (184 High Street, Boston, MA - 617-542-4747). Admission
and hors d'oeuvres are free; there will be a cash bar.
The artists
performing on March 8th represent different aspects of this tradition.
Emcee Nick Dussault is a local arts reviewer and comedy/cabaret personality.
Kathy St. George is a familiar face on Boston stages for her roles
in many acclaimed musicals and cabaret productions including Shear
Madness; I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change; and Ruthless. Kathy
won the 2001 IRNE (Independent Reviewers of New England) award for
Best Actress.

Jan
Peters is the IRNE pick for 2003 Best Female Cabaret Artist, and recently
performed at the Mabel Mercer Foundation's 14th Annual Cabaret Convention.
Ida Zecco is a veteran actress and classically trained singer whose
latest one-woman show, Estro-gin and Tonic is one part theater, one
part stand up comedy, and one part heartfelt singing. The duo of Ben
Sears and Brad Conner are known for combining entertaining performances
with outstanding historical research, especially of the music of George
Gershwin and Irving Berlin. Brian De Lorenzo is a musical theater
artist and Talent America winner who lends his clear tenor to classics
old and new.
Will McMillan,
well known in the Cambridge area for his role in promoting Cabaret
at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education, recently teamed up with
soprano Bobbi Carrey to present If I Loved You, a musical celebration
of love, "unrequited, requited, and not so requited." Krisanthi Pappas
is a jazz, pop and cabaret singer who has opened for or shared the
stage with many jazz greats including Bradford Marsalis and Chuck
Mangione. Her three cds, which include many originals, have received
strong acclaim.
The Fabulous
Baker Sisters (Bobbi and Dolly) originally recorded for Mercury records
in the 1950's, and after pursuing long careers separately in comedy
and music, are back together and still going strong. Celia Slattery
wove monologues with music from the 60's and 70's, to create Moving
Target, her memoir about growing up in the Age of Aquarius. All of
the performers, with piano accompaniment, express the intimacy and
the immediacy that has always defined cabaret.
BACA is a
membership organization whose mission is: to create a community to
share, support, promote, and recognize the value of cabaret in the
greater New England area.
