
BETTY
BUCKLEY IN "PORTRAITS" AT CAFE CARLYLE

THE
CAFE CARLYLE (35 East 76th Street, NYC - 1-212-744-1600 - http://www.thecarlyle.com/cal.cfm)
announces the return engagement of Tony Award-winner Betty Buckley
in her new show "PORTRAITS," an engagingly eclectic evening of music
by American composers - both new and old - whom Ms. Buckley says "reflect
the American spirit and whose work deserves to be included in the
Great American Songbook." Ms. Buckley will be joined by her musical
director Kenny Werner on piano, Tony Marino on bass and Todd Reynolds
on violin. Performances begin March 2nd and will continue through
March 27th, Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8:45 pm with late shows
on Fridays and Saturdays at 10:45 pm. There is a $65 cover charge
on Tuesday through Thursday evenings and a $75 cover charge on Friday
and Saturday evenings. There is no minimum required for any performance.
Dinner is served from 6:30 pm.
Her program
will include works by such established names as Billy Joel, Paul Simon
and Mary Chapin Carpenter to the lesser known Ricky Ian Gordon and
Adam Guettel. Ms. Buckley will also offer "Why Did I Choose You?,"
from the Broadway musical The Yearling, "If I Never Knew You," the
Oscar-winning love theme by Stephen Schwartz & Alan Menken from the
Disney animated film Pocahontas and Leslie Bricusse's "When I Look
In Your Eyes," as well as two songs from the current Academy Award-nominated
film Cold Mountain.
Betty Buckley
won a Tony Award for her performance as Grizabella, the Glamour Cat,
in Andrew Lloyd Webber's CATS. She received her second Tony Award
nomination for Best Actress in a musical for her performance as Hesione
in TRIUMPH OF LOVE and an Olivier Award nomination for her interpretation
of Norma Desmond in the London production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's
SUNSET BOULEVARD, which she repeated to more rave reviews on Broadway.
Her other
Broadway credits include 1776, PIPPIN, SONG AND DANCE, THE MYSTERY
OF EDWIN DROOD and CARRIE. Off-Broadway credits include the original
NYSF production of DROOD, THE EROS TRILOGY, JUNO SWANS and ELEGIES.
Regional credits include GYPSY, THE THEEPENNY OPERA, CAMINO REAL and
BUFFALO GAL. She starred in the London production PROMISES, PROMISES.
Her film
appearances include her debut in Brian de Palma's screen version of
Stephen King's CARRIE, Bruce Beresford's TENDER MERCIES, Roman Polanski's
FRANTIC, Woody Allen's ANOTHER WOMAN and Lawrence Kasdan's WYATT EARP.
Buckley has
appeared on television in the series MONK, the HBO Cable series OZ
and starred as Abby Bradford in the hit series EIGHT IS ENOUGH. She
has completed 10 CDs, among them the Grammy Award-nominated STARS
AND THE MOON, BETTY BUCKLEY LIVE AT THE DONMAR and most recently THE
DOORWAY.
For over
thirty years Ms. Buckley has been a teacher of scene study and song
interpretation, giving workshops in Manhattan and various universities
and performing arts conservatories. She is currently a faculty member
in the theatre department of the University of Texas at Arlington.
