Chicago Cabaret Favorites Bring the Songs of Irving Berlin to ODETTE'S

Three of Chicago's most popular cabaret performers, Joan Curto, Tom Michael and MaryMonica Thomas, join Jeff Award-winning musical director Dan Stetzel and New York director, Ron Cohn to present "The Songs of Irving Berlin: An American Romance" at THE CABARET at Odette's (South River Road, New Hope, PA - 215-862-3000 - http://www.bobegan.net/Odettes.html) on Friday and Saturday, May 21st & 22nd at 8:00 pm. This show will feature director, Ron Cohn as a special guest performer. The show will have a $15 cover, with a $10 food/drink minimum.

The show will also be performed at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 1-212-255-5438 - http://www.theduplex.com/ ) on Thursday May 20th at 7:00 pm and Sunday May 23rd at 5:00 pm. This show will feature director, Ron Cohn as a special guest performer. There will be a $15 cover, 2-drink minimum. $5 discount off the cover for members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE.

"The Songs of Irving Berlin: An American Romance" will cover the many facets of Berlin's career including his Broadway, pop, patriotic, and movie repertoire. Irving Berlin, America's most popular composer, wrote over 1500 songs, 282 of which were top-ten hits of their day. The show will feature over thirty of Berlin's most beloved songs such as "How Deep is the Ocean," "Alexander's Ragtime Band," "Always," and "Let Yourself Go" as well as lesser known gems including "Dance and Grow Thin" and "Reaching for the Moon."

Joan Curto has quickly established herself as one of the leading ladies of Chicago cabaret. The winner of the 2003 After Dark Award for Outstanding Cabaret Artist, she is also a favorite at Chicago Humanities Festival Concerts and Mabel Mercer Foundation Chicago Cabaret Conventions. Joan has performed all over the country, including New York City's Judy's, The Royal Room in Palm Beach, and Stackner Cabaret in Milwaukee.

Vocalist Tom Michael has appeared on stages such as New York City's Town Hall; Chicago's Park West, Empire Room, Davenport's; Houston's Ovations; and The Royal Room in Palm Beach. Tom has released two critically-acclaimed CD's on LML Music, "Written in the Stars" and "Sailing On," both of which were featured on Billboard Magazine's Album Spotlight Page as well in Show Business Weekly and Playbill and BackStage.

After Dark Award-winner for "Outstanding Cabaret Artist of 2002," MaryMonica Thomas has delighted audiences in Chicago at The Club at Symphony Center, The Palmer House, Davenport's, The Royal George Theater and The Mercury Theater. Her acclaimed "Sepia Tones: The Music of Dorothy Dandridge " was named " #1 Cabaret show of 2002 in Chicago" by Cabaret Scenes Magazine.

Jeff Award winner Dan Stetzel is one of the Chicago's most sought after musical directors. His "Alternative Songwriters" series included "Grapefruit Moon: The Music of Tom Waits," the longest running show in Davenport's history, which won an After Dark Award for "Production of the Year." He also conceived and musically directed "Across A Crowded Room...The Music of Richard Rodgers," which was named the "# 1 Show of 2002," by Cabaret Hotline Online's Todd Shuman and went on to play across the country. His work can be heard on two recent recordings: Cory Jamison's "Here's to Hoagy" and his joint collaboration with Patty Morabito "The Delicate Hour."

Ron Cohn's multifaceted cabaret career encompasses the role of performer, manager, director, coach, teacher, producer and publicist. He manages Julie Wilson, Jane A. Johnston and Baby Jane Dexter. He recently wrote, directed and performed in several critically acclaimed shows in Chicago and New York including "An American Romance", the songs of Irving Berlin, and "Circle of Friends." He directed " Across a Crowded Room" A Richard Rogers Celebration, "Turn on the Heat" with Jeanne Resua, Joanne Tatham in " Songs That Led Me" Astray" and "Undecided" starring Austin Pendelton and Barbara Blier. Ron is a director of the Mabel Mercer Foundation and, in addition to producing the evenings honoring Margaret Whiting and Julie Wilson, has assisted Donald Smith in the production of the Foundation's Cabaret Convention. He has produced over 60 shows, in venues ranging from the Triad and the Ballroom to the Russian Tea Room, to benefit many worthy organizations including Hearts and Voices, PWC-NY and the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center. For seven years he was a master teacher at the Cabaret Symposium. He currently teaches a Master Class at "The Singers Forum".
