GEORGE
M. COHAN'S GREAT-GRANDDAUGHTER JOINS COHAN REVUE

Writer/director
Chip Deffaa, perhaps the foremost living authority on Cohan, is presenting
"THE GEORGE M. COHAN REVUE" at DANNY'S SKYLIGHT ROOM (346 West 46th Street, NYC - 1-212-265-8133 - http://www.dannysgrandseapalace.com/
) on Tuesday, December 7th and Monday, December 13th, both shows at
6:30 pm. This unique biographical musical show packs 45 rousing Cohan
songs into 80 fast-moving minutes. Jon Peterson plays Cohan. The cast
of eight now includes Cohan's own great-granddaughter, Jennifer Cohan
Ross. Others in the cast include veterans of Broadway, film and TV
Joan Jaffe and Hal Blankenship (this real-life married couple will
portray George M.'s parents, Nellie and Jerry Cohan); Dawne Swearingen,
who is also the show's dance captain, portrays Cohan's sister, Josie;
rounding out the cast are ensemble players Catharine Remmert and Dave
Warren. Justin Boccitto is the choreographer. Sterling Price-McKinney
is the musical director. There is a $16 cover charge and $10 food/drink
minimum. $8 cover for
members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE.
When Ms.
Ross joins in, singing "Give My Regards to Broadway" at the close,
she'll be singing a song her own great-grandfather wrote and introduced
on Broadway in 1904, with her own great-grandmother in the original
Broadway chorus! Jennifer Cohan Ross is 21, she has studied acting
at HB Studios, and appeared on MTV. This will be her New York stage
debut! She will help narrate a show in which her own celebrated great-grandfather,
George M., and her great-grandmother, Agnes (who perfomed in several
Cohan musicals) are represented. The show's co-narrator is Michael
Townsend Wright, who narrated the HBO film, "The Rat Pack." Jennie
is currently busy rehearsing, just two blocks away from the statue
of her great-grandfather in Times Square. (He is the only Broadway
performer/songwriter to have a statue on public land in NYC.)
The rest
of the cast includes veterans of Broadway, film and TV Joan Jaffe
and Hal Blankenship (seen most recently on TV in "Saturday Night Live"
and on film in "The Manchurian Candidate," this real-life married
couple will portray George M.'s parents, Nellie and Jerry Cohan).
Dawne Swearingen, who is also the show's dance captain, portrays Cohan's
sister, Josie . And Jennie Cohan Ross notes, they act like a real
family, onstage and off. (Why not? They've been working together on
the Cohan project for two years.). Rounding out the cast are ensemble
players Catharine Remmert and Dave Warren. Justin Boccitto is the
choreographer. Sterling Price-McKinney is the musical director. (He
also served as musical director for Deffaa's earlier musical play,
"George M. Cohan: In His Own Words," which has been published this
year by Samuel French Inc.)
The ASCAP/Deems
Taylor Award-winning author of eight books, Deffaa wrote about entertainment
for The New York Post for 17 years, and freelances widely. Jon Peterson,
who stars as George M. Cohan in the "Revue," previously starred in
the U.S. national tour of "Cabaret." He then covered that role on
Broadway, and recently reprised the role at the Westchester Broadway
Theater.
