Courtenay Day Celebrates Great Lyricists at ODETTE'S

Critically acclaimed cabaret singer Courtenay Day will present her new show, "More Ira Than Anyone Else ... Gershwin, That Is," on Friday & Saturday, April 2nd & 3rd at 8:00 pm, at THE CABARET at Odette's (South River Road, New Hope, PA - 215-862-3000 - http://www.bobegan.net/Odettes.html ). In this show, Day illuminates the lyrics of the popular standards of Ira Gershwin, the contemporary classics of Joni Mitchell, and the new music of Michael Holland and Steven Lutvak. The show is directed by Mr. Lutvak with musical direction and accompaniment by Christopher Marlowe with Peter Sanders on cello. There is a $18.50 music charge and a $10 food/drink minimum.

For Ms. Day, a well-known member of the Manhattan, Philadelphia-area and London cabaret scenes, the show marks her debut at THE DUPLEX. She has appeared regularly in New York cabaret establishments including Arci's Place, Don't Tell Mama, Judy's, Danny's and Eighty Eights; in the Philadelphia area at Tavern on Camac, Sellersville Theater, and at Odette's where she was the inaugural cabaret act and continues to perform regularly to sell-out crowds; and in London at Pizza on the Park.

Courtenay has an intimate and personal connection to the lyrics, and her uncluttered and classy style has been praised by the New York and London press. True to form, her new show is all about lyrics - in this case, the great lyrics of Ira Gershwin, as well as some of the newer writers to whom the torch has been passed.

Notable are two Lutvak songs that Ms. Day has included in this show: "I Just Wanted You To Know," and an opening number written especially for her, "I Feel Like A Brand New Day", which she is debuting.

Courtenay Day has recorded two CDs: "Courtenay Day: Live at Don't Tell Mama," and "State of Bliss." Produced on LML Records (http://www.lmlmusic.com/ ), they are distributed internationally, available through major record stores and through their website.
