DCCN Presents More New Music for Cabaret & Musical Theatre

The Washington, DC Area Cabaret Network (DCCN) is doing it again! Bringing together the areaís best and brightest musical performers with some of the countryís up and coming songwriting talent for "Stop the Presses II!! More New Music for Cabaret & Musical Theatre," on Sunday, June 13th at 7:30 pm at the H STREET PLAYHOUSE (1365 H Street, NE, Washington, DC - 800-494-TIXS - http://www.Boxofficetickets.com/ ). Tickets are $15.

The first Stop the Presses evening was held in June of 2002 to great acclaim. The idea behind the event is to bring the rising generation of composers to the attention of the public.

The Network received over one hundred submissions from around the country for this year's event. Of those twenty four were chosen for inclusion in the show. Washington, DC Area Composers are amply represented, with work by Terri Allen, Eric Wenocour, and Todd Hahn, Barry Biern and Emily Spitz, James McCully, and Clark Maylone included in eveningís offerings. Some well known New York City names contributed material, among them Sally Mayes, Steve Ross, Erv Raible and Shelley Markham, Pam Tate, Joshua Cohen and Dottie Burman. The New England area is well represented with material by composers Barbara Brilliant, Dennis Livingston, Stephen Murray, Krisanthi Pappas and Barry Rosenberg of Massachusetts, and Jay Gitlin and Ginny Bales of Connecticut. Rounding out this varied group of writers are Andrew Sussman of Pennsylvania, and Mel Nelson of California.

Performing the material will be a stellar cast of area performers: Susan Allen, Terri Allen, Wendy Lane Bailey, Beverly Cosham, Christina Crerar, Steven Cupo, Emily Everson, Colin James, Eduardo Placer, Scot Reese, Joanne Schmoll, Judy Simmons, Tim Tourbin, and Christy Trapp. Six time Helen Hayes award nominee George Fulginiti-Shakar music directs this lively and capable group of performers.

The Cabaret Network has a deep ongoing commitment to not only see that the the songs of the great American Songbook are preserved, but that the canon is added to. It is their hope that this evening is just one of many to come.
