"LIVE AT THE PURPLE ONION" Open Mic Announced

Kitchenette Productions presents two new musical events ... a new ongoing open mic, "LIVE AT THE PURPLE ONION" and "NEW STARS OF THE PURPLE ONION," a month of showcase performances, both events held at the renowned PURPLE ONION (240 Columbus Avenue, San Francisco, CA - 415-956-1653). LIVE kicks-off on Monday, June 14th from 7:00 to 10:00 pm and will continue every Monday thereafter. Doors open at 6:30pm for sign up. And for a $5 cash-at-the-door cover, you get a nibble of an Italian antipasto.

Hosted by Kitchenettes Lua Hadar and Linda Kosut, in collaboration with musical director Barry Lloyd, this is an open mic "with a cherry on top." The regular open mic, LIVE AT THE PURPLE ONION, will run for approximately 2 to 3 months. Now here's the "cherry" - during the open mic months, the hosts will invite select singers to perform solo sets in the showcase, "The New Stars of The Purple Onion."

Starting September 13th (skipping Labor Day Monday), and through the end of September, 3 or 4 singers selected from the open mic nights will perform on a Monday showcase night. A total of from 9 to 12 singers will be September's showcase performers. And in October, the open mic begins again every Monday for several months, leading to another showcase month in December.

All singers are invited and asked to bring music in their key. Singers should be prepared for 2 songs each and so that everyone who signs up has a chance to sing on the stage of The Purple Onion, singers will be performing one song at a time. If there is time at the end of the list and before the evening concludes, then singers will be called up again from the top of the list.

The Purple Onion is owned by Caffe Macaroni Sciue Sciue, upstairs and next-door at 124 Columbus. The Purple Onion serves wine, beer and specialty wine drinks. There will also be a reasonably priced bar menu available downstairs at The Purple Onion. Or you wish to have dinner before or after the open mic, please call Caffe Macaroni at 415-217-8400 for reservations.
