Carol Sloane at the Jazz Bakery In September

Celebrating 50th Anniversary in Jazz

Jazz vocalist, Carol Sloane will perform with clarinetist, Ken Peplowski, at the THE JAZZ BAKERY (3233 Helms Avenue, Culver City, CA - 310-271-9039 - http://www.jazzbakery.com/ ) from September 14th through 19th, celebrating both her 50th anniversary in jass and her latest CD, "Whisper Sweet," on High Note Records. This CD is her forty-eighth recording since she debuted with the Larry Elgart Band in 1959. Also appearing will be John Pisano on guitar and Chuck Berghofer on bass. Showtimes are 8:00 & 9:30 pm. Tickets are $25, Monday through Thursday, $30 on Friday & Saturday.

Carol Sloane's stellar career has included performing with Lambert, Hendricks and Ross at the Village Vanguard and the Newport Jazz Festival; opening for Jackie Mason and the Smothers Brothers at Mr. Kelly's in Chicago; Bill Cosby, Godfrey Cambridge and Richard Pryor at the hungry I in San Francisco; and Phyllis Diller, Jackie Vernon and Stiller and Meara at the Blue Angel in New York. She appeared regularly on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and forged lasting friendships with Ella Fitzgerald and Carmen McRae.

Carol recorded her first album for Columbia Records in 1961 and made her New York debut opening for Oscar Peterson at the Village Vanguard. She has performed with Art Farmer, Kenny Burrell, Kenny Barron, Ernestine Anderson, Chris Connor, Tommy Flanagan, Bill Charlap, Scott Hamilton, Fred Hersch, George Mraz, Bucky Pizzarelli, Rufus Reid, Jimmy Rowles, Clark Terry, Ben Webster and Phil Woods, among many others. Carol has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Town Hall and the Kaplan Penthouse at Lincoln Center, and was a guest with Marian McPartland on her NPR program, "Piano Jazz."

Carol Sloane also has the distinct privilege of appearing in three mystery novels written by best-selling author, Robert Parker (Ceremony, Hush Money, Potshot and the Spenser series).

Clarinetest, Ken Peplowski, has a rich musical history. A Cleveland native, he began his career as a member of the Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey bands and developed a style most often compared to Benny Goodman. Peplowski has performed and recorded with a diverse range of artists including Mel Torme, Charlie Byrd, Peggy Lee, George Shearing, Warren Vache, Jr., Hank Jones, Leon Redbone, Jimmy McPartland, Ruby Braff, Scott Hamilton, Howard Alden, Rosemary Clooney and Steve Allen.
