A LOOK BACK AT JOHNNY HARTMAN AT THE TRIAD

EVENT CANCELLED DUE TO ILLNESS

Critically acclaimed Chicago jazz vocalist Spider Saloff teams with legendary pianist Tony Monte for a concert and retrospective of the life and music of the great vocalist Johnny Hartman at THE TRIAD (158 West 72nd Street, NYC - 212-787-7921 - http://www. Triadnyc.com/ ) on Friday, November 5th at 7:00 pm. Mr. Monte, Hartman's long-time pianist, is the musical director. The concert title "The Bridges of Johnny Hartman" suggests Hartman's career that bridged pop and jazz music and incorporates the title of the film "The Bridges of Madison County" which brought Hartman's recordings back to the public ear. There is a $15 cover, $10 minimum. A portion of this evening's profits go to ASPN (American Songbook Preservation Network), a non-profit organization.

Author and jazz authority Dr. Nick Catalano will make a very special appearance at the concert. Mr. Catalano, the renowned Professor of Music and Literature at Pace University, will read "Nightclub", the poem penned by Billy Collins (America's Poet Laureate, 2001 - 2003). "Nightclub" was composed about Hartman's signature tune "You Are Too Beautiful" (Rodgers and Hart) and is a meditation on the meaning of the haunting lyric and Hartman's venerable jazz ballads.

The event will include Hartman's famous popular hits as well as classic jazz duets that Hartman recorded with John Coltrane, all performed in a fresh format interlaced with stories about Hartman's fascinating life and career.
