JAZZ STAR TIERNEY SUTTON MAKES OAK ROOM DEBUT

Tierney Sutton will make her eagerly anticipated ALGONQUIN OAK ROOM (59 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-840-6800 - http://www.algonquinhotel.com/) debut Wednesday February 17th through Saturday March 13th. Titled "Dancing in the Dark," the show recreates the drama, emotion and spirit of the legendary Frank Sinatra and coincides with the release of her fourth CD, also called Dancing in the Dark (TelArc Jazz). She will be joined by her long-standing trio featuring Christian Jacob on piano, Trey Henry on bass and Ray Brinker on drums. Shows are Tuesday through Saturday at 9:00 pm, with a $50 cover and $20 minimum. $50 prix fixe dinner required Friday and Saturday.

Since the release of her first album, Introducing Tierney Sutton in 1999, Tierney has earned a reputation as one of the most innovative performers on today's jazz scene. A graduate of Boston's Berklee School of Music and currently head of the jazz vocal department at the University of Southern California, Tierney came to the attention of the jazz community when she placed second in the prestigious Thelonius Monk Competition. She soon found herself opening for such legends as Max Roach and The Billy Taylor Trio, which in turn led to invitations from the world's most celebrated jazz festivals.

Each of Tierney's successive CDs ó Unsung Heroes, Blue in Green (a tribute to Bill Evans, one of her musical idols) and Something Cool ó brought increased critical and popular support worldwide. With the release of Dancing in the Dark, a sumptuous recording featuring such songs as "What'll I Do," "Where or When," "Last Night When We Were Young" and the title song, with liner notes by renowned radio personality Jonathan Schwartz, Tierney is poised to become one of those rare jazz artists who appeal to each and every listener.
