The original concept was
the brain-child of Edd Clark and Paul Stephan, who asked their long-time
friends, Bill Brooks and Steven Tharp to do a show spoofing the original
"3 Tenors." After all, there'd already been the original 3 Tenors,
3 Mo' Tenors, 3 Irish Tenors, and even The Ten Tenors! While working
on the show, they found that just spoofing the original 3 Tenors was
too limiting. With the help of musical director and arranger Paul
Stephan, and using a mix of opera, operetta, pop and musical theatre,
they set out to find their own voice, and in the process created a
show with an original blend of harmony and humor.
The tenors themselves
bring a wide variety of experience to the table.
Steve Tharp (the Opera
tenor) has performed in opera and concert with The Metropolitan Opera,
The New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, the New York City
Opera, and many others here and abroad in repertoire ranging from
Monteverdi to Kurt Weill.
Edd Clark (the Legit Tenor),
is the co-founder of the New Opera Group in NYC, and has sung leading
roles in the American premieres of Cimarosa's Le Astuzie Femminilli,
Haydn's Le Pescatrici, and Cimarosa's The Italian Girl in London.
Crossing over to musical theatre Edd appeared as Pirelli in Sweeney
Todd, the Padre in Man of LaMancha, Tito Morelli in Lend Me a Tenor,
Gaylord Ravenal in Showboat.
Bill Brooks (the Broadway
tenor) has performed and traveled throughout Europe and the United
States. He has played a variety of roles including Che in Evita Gus/Growltiger
in the Hamburg production of Cats, Sparky in Forever Plaid, and singing
the beautiful music of Michael Oster in the Off-Broadway production
of Disappearing Act.
Paul Stephan (Musical
Director and arranger) is a graduate of Ithaca College and the University
of Utah, where he received a Masters of Fine Arts in writing and directing
musical theatre. He has studied composition with John Eaton and Karel
Husa. He has composed scores for several musicals, including A Fairy
Tale, Beauty and the Beast, and Trudy, which premiered at Theatre
138 in Salt Lake City. Paul is an alumni of the BMI Lehman Engle Musical
Theatre workshop, and had his works performed in their evenings of
"works in progress." His song Anymore can be currently be heard on
the Bettina Covo's debut CD "Out of the Shadows."
