CABARET NEWS - NEW YORK CITY

SISTER ACT REUNITES AT THE ENCORE IN OCTOBER
The New York-based cabaret star and musical comedienne Georga Osborne and her West Coast-based actress and jazz vocalist sister Nancy Osborne will merge their ample talents in a brand new act, "Birds of a Feather," that gets its first airing in New York at THE ENCORE (266 West 47th Street, NYC - 212-221-3960 - http://www.theencorenyc.com/ ), Times Square's popular new cabaret hotspot, with performances scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 6th, 7th at 7:00 pm and the 8th at 5:00 pm.

The sisters, who hail from Maysville. KY - a veritable wellspring of female singing talent since this bluegrass burg also produced the Osborne's idol Rosemary Clooney -- have not performed together since they were children. The show features music director Steven Ray Watkins on piano, and is directed by Lennie Watts.

There is a $20 cover and a $12 food/drink minimum.

At the time the Osborne Sisters opened for their urbane father, Dr. George R. Osborne (a well-liked chiropractor and basso profundo), at churches, Lions Clubs, Rotary Clubs, Women's Clubs, Country Clubs and county fairs throughout Kentucky and southern Ohio. Almost since leaving the nest the two siblings, who have gone on to enjoy substantial careers in their chosen musical fields, have yearned to ruffle each other's feathers on stage once again. In "Birds of a Feather" -- swarming with swing, jazz, 50's pop and some down-home Osborne Sisters favorites -- they get their wish.

A Bistro and two-time MAC Award winner, Georga swings freely from cabaret to opera and legit musicals. She has been called "one of the funniest entertainers around" (Cabaret Scenes), "absolutely hilarious" (Variety), "wildly hilarious" (Daily News), and "utterly appealing" (Backstage). London's The Stage rated her "one helluva funny girl" and she was branded "almost a force of nature" in the Mobile Register! Her talents have soared in numerous regional opera companies; in appearances at Carnegie Hall; on Broadway, and in regional theatre around the country. Cabaret audiences have flocked to see her in NY, London, Chicago, Palm Springs and Taos. Georga has a CD called "Now Available in Stores" and she appears in next month's Cabaret Convention.

Nancy Osborne, older than Georga by a feather, left home after high school to become a member of the Young Americans and has lived in California ever since. A singer and actress she worked on many TV and live projects for Disney (starred as Slue Foot Sue in "The Golden Horseshoe Revue" at Disneyland among others), and in numerous national tours. She has been a featured vocalist with such bands as the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Tex Beneke, and, most recently, Johnny Vana's Big Band Alumni, with whom she made two CD's and a new DVD of their "Live from Las Vegas" musical extravaganza. For the last four years she's performed with the world-famous female quartet The Chordettes with whom she tours frequently. Her new CD, backed by an 18-piece big band, "Nancy Osborne Hot Swing, Cool Jazz" gets released in October.
