NEWS ABOUT CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE

INTRODUCING JEFF MATSON AWARD WINNER TRUDI MANN
According to her "official bio" Kansas City (MO) native Trudi Mann has never wanted to do anything but sing. She had her own trio in high school and went on to sing, professionally, in all the important rooms in KC before taking her swinging jazz trio, TRUDI MANN & MEN, on the road. Ms. Mann has appeared at the Texas Jazz Festival; in Las Vegas and innumerable rooms and clubs, across the country. Before settling permanently on Long Island, TRUDI MANN & MEN entertained at Lake George, Gurney's Inn, in Montauk, a summer run in a Pocono Mountains resort and a summer run in a Catskill Resort Hotel, where they were credited with changing the 'face of music' in those areas, with their intricate vocal arrangements. She has appeared in concerts in Mexico.

In the metropolitan area she has appeared at Trumpets, Birdland and numerous occasions at the world renowned Village Gate, at Trudy Heller's, Burt Bachrach's, Broadcaster's Inn, The Riverboat, Cleopatra's Needle, Chez Suzette, Jan Wallman's, Judy's, Harlem's famous Cotton Club, Yardbird Suite, Danny's Skylight Room, Arci's Place, and many appearances at the world famous St. Peter's Church Jazz Vespers and the Jazz at Noon Series. There have been numerous library and festival concerts on Long Island. Currently, and for the past 16 years, she has hosted New York City's premiere open mic for singers, currently for Sunday brunch at LA BELLA'S (581 Second Avenue, NYC - 212-683-3889).

I first met Trudi at the long-closed VILLAGE GATE and was not only struck by her distinctive vocals, but also by her genuine charm and friendliness. Always ready to encourage and support new performers, Trudi has continued her mentoring of singers in her weekly open-mic shows. Never judgmental, always supportive, folks from all over the country have found in Trudi a true and helpful friend. And whenever she gets the chance, Trudi is there for performers at their debut cabaret shows and beyond - usually with a number of other performers and fans from her Sunday brunch events. Truly Trudy Mann is a worthy recipient of the award named in honor of Jeff Matson, also known for his untiring support and mentoring of cabaret performers.
