WILL LOVES STEVE IN VALENTINE MONTH SHOW
As a prelude to Valentine's Day, Will McMillan brings his show "Will
Loves Steve" to the CAMBRIDGE CENTER FOR ADULT EDUCATION (56 Brattle
Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-547-6789 - Ext. 1 - http://www.ccae.org/
) for a three-show run, beginning Friday February 2nd, with additional
shows scheduled for Friday & Saturday, February 9th & 10th at 8:00 pm
and Sunday, February 4th at 3:00 pm. The concept for "Will Loves Steve"
is simple, featuring songs by Stephen Sondheim, Stevie Wonder, Stephen
Schwartz, Stephen Flaherty, Steve Schalchlin, Stephen Foster, Steve
Sweeting and Cat Stevens. Will is accompanied by Doug Hammer on piano.
Will debuted this show at SCULLERS JAZZ CLUB (400 Soldiers
Field Road, Allston, MA) in June 2006 to critical and audience acclaim.
McMillan, who has been working at CCAE for over a decade, was recently
appointed assistant director of the organization, forcing him to cut
back on performing for the past 6 months. Now music is back as a priority
in his life. And, coincidentally, his partner of 14 years is also
named Stephen. So the title has an extra resonance.
Some of the Steves on McMillan's list may not be as
familiar to concert-goers as Sondheim, Schwartz, Wonder and Foster.
Stephen Flaherty is half of the songwriting team Ahrens
and Flaherty who did Broadway shows such as RAGTIME and ONCE ON THIS
ISLAND. Cat Stevens might seem like an unlikely choice for a cabaret
show, but it turns out the currently named Yusuf Islam was born Stephen
Georgiou. Steve Schalchlin is a songwriter and longtime AIDS activist/survivor
whom McMillan first met when Schalchlin performed at the Cambridge
Center for Adult Education 10 years ago. Steve wrote a musical called
THE LAST SESSION which was produced Off-Broadway. And Steve Sweeting
is an old friend of Will's and gifted songwriter who used to live
in Allston (a suburb of Boston.
There is a $15 cover. $12 for members of BACA (Boston
Association of Cabaret Artists - http://www.bostoncabaret.com/
)
