"SONG FROM THE BRINK: A CABARET" IN BOSTON
Pilgrim Theatre Research and Performance Collaborative (http://www.pilgrimtheatre.org/ ) celebrates Cabaret Month, presenting "Songs From the Brink: a Cabaret" Wednesday through Sunday, March 28th through April 1st at the PLAZA BLACK BOX THEATRE at the BOSTON CENTER FOR THE ARTS (BCA) (539 Tremont Street, Boston, MA - TKTS: 617-933-8600 - http://www.BostonTheatreScene.com/ ). The show brings legendary Boston cabaret artist Belle Linda Halpern to the stage with Ron Roy at the piano and Jeffrey Korn as her Special Guest. This is the third performance in the series Crossing Borders III: Voices. Showtimes are Wednesday through Saturday at 8:00 pm and Sunday, April 1st at 7:00 pm.

Songs from the Brink is a colorful two-act celebration of the siren songs that have tempted audiences toward the brink of a new life. From the gritty Yiddish theatres of NYC's 2nd Avenue, the honky-tonks of Harlem and the smoky clubs of Paris, Halpern's cabaret brings to life the voices that have tantalized and lured generation after generation across boundaries. Everyone will have a favorite song represented here, and will discover at least a dozen more.

The first act crosses decades and continents with musical gems like "Boat That's Leavin'," "Die Grine Kuzine," "Swanee" and "Rumania." and features visits from Sophie tucker and Al Jolson. The second act of Songs from the Brink travels the inroads of the spirit with songs of courage like: "Je Ne Regrette Rien," "Can't Help Lovin' That Man," and "Take the Moment."

Halpern connects the music and lyrics of American and European cabaret songs with clarity, warmth and style. With her incredible dynamic range, she sensuously croons ballads, powerfully belts out the blues, and, with lightning speed and hilarity, whips out a patter song. Belle Linda creates one-act plays of love won and love lost. Her repertoire ranges from the smoldering songs of Kurt Weill, to the breezy ballads of Richard Rodgers, to the sardonic wit Stephen Sondheim. And her refreshingly honest approach to songs wins her fans world-wide, whether she sings in English, French, Italian, German or Yiddish.

She has performed in New York City at Town Hall, the Ballroom, Greene Street, and Eighty-Eights. In Boston, she has been a regular at Copley Plaza, Club Cabaret, Ryles and Upstairs at the Pudding. In Europe, she has appeared at Les Bouchons in Paris and Munich's Kleines Rondell. And every summer, she tours the castles of Northern Italy and the chateaux of Southern France, bringing the universal power of these songs to enthusiastic audiences.

Tickets are $18.50 - $23.
