DARYL SHERMAN AT SCULLERS JAZZ CLUB MAY 8th
Manhattan based singer and pianist Daryl Sherman makes a rare Boston
appearance celebrating her new CD Guess Who's In Town (Arbors) AT SCULLERS
JAZZ CLUB (400 Soldiers Field Road, Allston, MA - 617-562-4111 - http://www.scullersjazz.com/
) on Tuesday, May 8th at 8:00 pm. She is joined by Jon Wheatley (guitar)
and Marshall Wood (bass). Ms. Sherman's CD was cited in The New Yorker's
'10 Best of 2006' and was just nominated for New York's prestigious
MAC award.
Ms. Sherman is that rare combination - equally strong
as singer and instrumentalist with a recognizable distinctive sound.
Now in her 13th year playing Cole Porter's Steinway at New York's
Waldorf Astoria, Ms. Sherman has also been a popular attraction at
the Algonquin, Feinstein's at the Regency, Iridium Jazz Club and Jazz
At Lincoln Center.
In Europe she is a frequent headliner at festivals and
clubs in UK and Germany. Her many recordings are in regular rotation
on Cable TV's Music Choice and XM Satellite radio.
Born in Rhode Island, Daryl Sherman's New England roots
run deep. When clarinet great, Dick Johnson took over the helm of
Artie Shaw's band, Daryl was singer of choice. She's recorded with
hometown hero, pianist Dave McKenna and Boston born Ruby Braff.
Jon Wheatley and Marshall Wood share a common thread,
having often appeared with the legendary trumpet stylist, and their
musical rapport with Daryl is very apparent.
Tickets are $18.
