THREE CAT THURSDAYS: NEW WORKS THIS WEEK IN CHICAGO
Nationally known composer, Eric Lane Barnes stars at "Three Cat Thursdays"
when he offers up a selection of new songs on Thursday, September 13th
at 8:00 pm at GORILLA TANGO THEATER (1919 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago,

) with his award winning wit and unique comical twist. Vocalists, Rob
Dorn and Tina Gluschenko assist him in presenting a diverse selection
of his newest works that range from side splitting, dry comedy to emotional
and touching ballads.
Eric Lane Barnes is the author of the critically acclaimed
Fairy Tales, which received two Jeff citations (Chicago), three After
Dark Awards (Chicago), and three Bistro Awards (NYC). Fairy Tales
enjoyed successful runs in Chicago, New York City, London, Minneapolis,
Houston and numerous other cities. Barnes has written extensively
for Chicago theater, including Live Bait Theatrical, Bailiwick Repertory,
Pegasus Players and Poison Nut Productions. His scores and scripts
for Chicago's Lifeline Theatre include Tuck Everlasting, Simple Jim
and His Four Fabulous Friends, Scary Home Companion, The Amazing Bone
and Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel, which recently finished a
national tour with TheatreWorks USA. His most recent creation is The
Stops, a musical show featuring three lady church organists. The Stops
has played Chicago, Houston and Seattle in various productions, and
most recently ran in Richmond, Virginia in April of 2006. The Stops
was awarded Best Musical, among other awards at the Columbus National
Gay and Lesbian Theatre Festival in September 2006.
In January of 2000, Eric Lane Barnes was appointed Assistant
Artistic Director of Seattle Men's Chorus, through which he formed
the vocal comedy ensemble Captain Smartypants. Since their inception,
Captain Smartypants has performed with Blake Lewis, Ann Wilson, Melissa
Manchester, Lea Delaria, Kristiine W, Kristin Chenoweth, Megan Mullally,
Rosemary Clooney, Nell Carter and Margaret Cho. Captain Smartypants
has toured the Northwest with their shows Song and Pants, Sticks and
Stones, Undercover, Camp and Trousers of Terror to sold-out houses.
Barnes has written numerous choral works on commission.
His list of commissioners includes The Esoterics; The Gay Men's Chorus
of Washington DC; The New York City Gay Men's Chorus; One Voice Charlotte;
The Quire; Seattle Men's Chorus, Seattle Women's Chorus, Sound Circle;
The Turtle Creek Chorale; Unison Lesbian and Gay Singers; and The
Windy City Gay Chorus. Several of his choral pieces are published
through Shawnee Press. Most recently Eric wrote songs and underscore
for the independent film In-laws and Out-laws, soon playing at a cinema
near you.
Rob Dorn was born shortly after curtain time on July
24th, 1961. Prone to dramatics from an early age, he acted out and
WORE out all of his Magic Mirror Disney records and his prized original
soundtrack to The Wizard of Oz. Growing up in a five acre wood, he
learned to survive by staying inside and watching tv. He has spent
his life so far drawing, coloring, organizing, singing and play-acting.
His performance career has taken him throughout the United States
in regional theatre, national tours and as a member of the vocal group,
Three Hits and a Miss of which he was the founder and artistic director.
Tina Gluschenko is honored to be a part of this fun
show of original music by the ever-so-silly Eric Lane Barnes, along
side the ever-so-silly Rob Dorn. Rob and Tina met long ago ... farther
back than her old memory can manage to remember. Rob introduced Tina
to Eric, giving her the opportunity and pleasure of performing in
some of Eric's original musicals while he resided in and blessed Chicago
with his amazing talents. Rob and Tina have performed together in
several Chicago productions, and even ventured outside of Chicago
together for nine months on a national tour of Stephen Sondheim's
Into the Woods. Tina has performed with many Chicago theatres including
Second City, The Goodman, Steppenwolf, Chicago Shakespeare, and Northlight.
Tina originated the role of Ophelia in Hamlet the Musical, a Second
City production that ran for two summers at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre,
and reprised the role when the show went to New York under the name
Melancholy Baby for a successful off-off Broadway run.
