BONNIE PHILLIPS MAKES CABARET DEBUT AT DAVENPORT'S
Chicago native Bonnie Phillips (formerly of the Platters) returns
to the Windy City to present her show "Soundtracks" at DAVENPORT'S
(1383 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, IL - 773-278-1830 - http://www.davenportspianobar.com/
) on Saturday, September 29th at 10:30 pm, and Wednesdays October
17th and 24th at 8:00 pm. In this show Bonnie has created an exciting
cabaret concert featuring R&B, jazz, pop and standards that helped
to shape her life and career. Songs by artists such as Anita Baker,
Angela Bofill, Dionne Warwick, Lisa Stansfield and Steely Dan. She
is accompanied by a full 5-piece rhythm section lead by award winning
musical director Robert Reddrick.
Soundtracks was inspired by the music and songs many
have listened to their whole lives. These songs have helped through
bad times, and inspired in good times. They seemed to speak to the
heart and conjure up feelings and images long before MTV appeared.
Bonnie explores the different stages of relationships accompanied
by a musical soundtrack ranging from jazz, soul, soft rock, and
even disco. The show was first performed in June, 2007 and was met
with great audience enthusiasm and is now back by popular demand.
In the 1990's, Bonnie joined the band Spectrum, now
(R2Project) as lead vocalist. Bonnie lends her vocal abilities to
a wide range of music including contemporary jazz, R&B, rock and
roll, disco, Motown and everything in between. Bonnie was instrumental
in turning Spectrum into a highly requested band in the Chicago
area, with two one year contracts with major clubs in Chicago, securing
the title of "Best place for dancing" for Yvette's (Northshore Magazine).
While enriching the nightlife and its popular night
clubs in the city of Palentine, IL performing with Spectrum Bonnie
was personally chosen by Mrs. Illinois 1996, Peggy Glenn as the
featured vocalist for the Mrs. Illinois International pageant. Spectrum
was also awarded the honor of opening for the legendary Roy Ayres
at the Genesis Convention Center in Gary, Indiana. Shortly after
this Bonnie and the band embarked on a 5 month extended performance
in Nagoya Japan, while there she was asked by the Platters to fill
the female vocal spot once held by the famous Zola Taylor. Bonnie
Phillips toured with "The Platters, featuring the Legendary Monroe
Powell" in Japan performing to over ten thousand fans a night. Upon
returning, she repeated the tour in the U.S with special performances
for Kentucky Derby events.
Bonnie has headlined many Chicago top nightclub and
live music venues; including, The Cubby Bear, The Cotton Club, Pop's
for Champagne, and The Jazz Bulls, among others. Currently, Bonnie
is performing at various venues throughout the Chicago area, and
appears regularly at Tuscany in Wheeling. She is promoting "Ecstasy",
her first CD of original music with the R2Project.
