HALL'S "THAT SINGING FEELING" BEGINS 13th YEAR
Kevin Scott Hall begins his 13th year directing "That Singing Feeling"
vocal workshops, with a new 6-week class starting on Saturday, January
20th at 2:00 pm at the cabaret space UPSTAIRS AT ROSE'S TURN (55 Grove
Street, NYC - 1-212-366-5438 - http://www.rosesturn.com/
). Hall has conducted nearly 50 workshops since 1995, helping over 200
students realize their dream of singing in an intimate Big Apple nightclub.
A longtime champion of cabaret, Kevin has himself performed
in clubs all over town since the late 80s, and has recorded three
CDs: New Light Dawning (1998), Holiday Spirit (1999) and Live at Middle
(2002). His recordings, containing both covers and original songs,
have been given airplay on about 40 radio stations nationwide. In
addition, Hall has directed a few dozen solo acts and will soon receive
a master's degree in creative writing at City College/CUNY, where
he is also a professor of Speech.
Hall's students perform at any of the well cabaret venues,
most often midtown's Don't Tell Mama or downtown's Rose's Turn. His
workshops are unique in that he only allows six people per class and
works intensively to help each participant refine a 10-minute set,
to be performed in two showcases at the end of the six-week workshop.
Musical director for this workshop in Steven D. Cirillo
(a renowned coach in his own right, with several clients on Broadway,
tour and film). Together Hall and Cirillo have been called the "Siskel
and Ebert of cabaret" because of their sometimes lively, creative
differences in the classroom.
Hall will also be bringing back his hit class from last
year, "Better with a Band" (singing with a trio), starting Friday,
January 19th. Demonstrated previous experience and/or interview required
for this class.
Prospective students for either workshop can call Kevin
Scott Hall at 718-748-0328 or check out http://www.kevinscotthall.com/
for information about pricing and locations for the workshops.
