"DRUNK WITH LOVE HOLLYWOOD CD RELEASE CONCERT AUGUST 30th
Terese Genecco and The Jack Costanzo "Little Big Band" will be appearing
at M BAR (1253 North Vine Street, Hollywood, CA - 323-856-0036 - http://www.mbarhollywood.com/
) on Thursday, August 30th at 8:00 pm with "DRUNK WITH LOVE: A TRIBUTE
TO FRANCES FAYE!" in a special CD release concert. The "Little Big Band"
features Jack Costanzo on Latin Percussion, Mike Greensill on piano,
Rene Camacho on Bass, Mikey Holguin on Drums, Rich Armstrong on Trumpet,
Fil Lorenz on Tenor Sax and Max Perkoff on Trombone. This show made
its world premiere in San Francisco, where it opened at the New Conservatory
Theatre Center in July 2005, and ran for five consecutive weeks, before
moving to New York City for multiple engagements at The Encore Showroom,
Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Iridium Jazz Club, and more than a dozen
performances at Manhattan's nightclub newcomer, The Metropolitan Room.
Terese is the San Francisco - Bay Area's reigning "Entertainer
of the Year," a 2007 Backstage Bistro Award Winner, a 2006 MAC award
(Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs) nominee for Best Debut
Performance, and Time Out Magazine in New York City's Top Ten Best
Cabaret Shows of 2006!
Terese was inspired to recreate the look and feel of
the 1940s and 50s nightclub entertainer's act, after hearing a live
recording of Frances Faye at The Crescendo in Hollywood, and at The
Thunderbird in Las Vegas. Those performances were recorded by Gene
Norman, the owner of The Crescendo nightclub, in Hollywood, in 1957-58,
and were released on vinyl as "CAUGHT IN THE ACT. VOL 1 and VOL II,"
on Mr. Norman's record label, GNP Crescendo Records.
Jack Costanzo played on Frances Faye's 1958 Live LP,
"Caught In The Act", and toured the world with Nat "King" Cole, Peggy
Lee, Judy Garland, Sammy Davis, Jr., Ann Miller and others. Jack is
known around the world as "Mr. Bongo" and is credited for introducing
the bongos into American Jazz in the 1950s when he played with the
Stan Kenton Orchestra.
Originally from England, Mike Greensill has been a San
Francisco-based jazz great since 1977, and a 2007 Backstage Bistro
Award winner for Outstanding Achievement in Composition, Arranging,
and Conducting. Well known for his role as musical director to acclaimed
vocalist Wesla Whitfield, with whom he has recorded seventeen albums,
Mike is also the resident piano player on Sedge Thomson's weekly Public
Radio show to the world, West Coast Live. Mike can also be cauaght
playing jazz in many a local saloon, including Moose's in North Beach.
As an arranger, Mike has written for big bands and symphony orchestras,
including the Boston Pops and the San Francisco Symphony. He has also
played with Rita Moreno, Margaret Whiting, Lillias White, Franc D'Ambrosio,
Madeline Eastman, Ann Hampton Callaway and others. Many of the arrangements
in "Drunk With Love" are Greensill creations, including "I Ain't Got
Nobody" and "There Will Never Be Another You."
Rene Camacho is based in Los Angeles, but originally
hails from Tuscon, Arizona. He regularly performs with Jack Costanzo,
and has worked with The Pointer Sisters, Celia Cruz, Dizzy Gillespie,
Poncho Sanchez, Warren Vache, and many others.
Mikey Holguin is based in San Diego, and regularly appears
with the Jack Costanzo Band and has played with every top band in
the San Diego and L.A. areas, including Big Time Operator, Celia Cruz,
Son Mayor, Soul Persuaders, Dr. Feelgood, and more.
Rich Armstrong works with Terese in San Francisco, and
is a multi-instrumentalist, mostly known for his work with Michelle
Shocked, playing effected and looped trumpet/flugel, congas, bongos,
percussion, rhythm guitar, bass, and vocals. He has also toured and
recorded with Thomas Dolby, Lydia Pense Coldblood, Boz Skaggs, Hot
House Flowers, Tower of Power, Ozomatli, Spearhead, Los Mocosos, and
many more.
Fil Lorenz is a San Francisco-based reed man, and the
founder of The Collective West Jazz Orchestra, and the Fil Lorenz
Soul-tet. Fil has appeared around the world with the Glenn Miller
Orchestra, and the Rat Pack Tribute show in San Francisco, Las Vegas,
and Chicago. Fil is the original sax player on "Drunk With Love,"
and is featured on the Live CD.
Max Perkoff is the original trombone man on "Drunk With
Love," and is also featured on the Live CD. Max is based in the San
Francisco Bay Area, and is a band leader, soloist, sideman, composer,
arranger and recording artist. Max and fellow trombonist, Roswell
Rudd, were guest soloists with the Monk's Music Trio, on their recording,
"Monk's Bones," which hit #10 on the national jazz radio play list.
Max is also the arranger and musical director for "As Long As You're
Living, A Tribute To Oscar Brown Jr, starring Linda Kosut."
