METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 -

). Ms. Conklin returns to celebrate her latest CD "Blues For Breakfast-
Remembering Matt Dennis". Appearing with her will be arranger/music
director John di Martino on piano, Greg Ryan on bass and Ron Vincent
on drums. Mary Foster Conklin is an award-winning upcoming jazz vocalist
with a passion for uncovering lesser known material. BLUES FOR BREAKFAST,
her third CD, is a culmination of three years research and has been
performed on both coasts, to critical acclaim.
BLUES FOR BREAKFAST is a tribute to the late great
singer, songwriter and pianist Matt Dennis (1914-2002), who was
hired by band leader Tommy Dorsey in the 1940s as an arranger/composer
and later had a full career of his own playing the country's top
supper clubs. His songs "Angel Eyes" and "The Night We Called It
a Day" were recorded and made famous by Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald
and countless others. Besides his early hits with the Dorsey band
with lyricist Tom Adair, the evening will include compositions with
lyrics by Earl Brent, Sammy Cahn, Virginia Maxey Dennis, Jerry Gladstone,
and Bobby Troup.
Conklin's talents have earned her a place on the stages
of The Blue Note, Sweet Rhythm, The Iridium, and Jazz at Lincoln
Center. On the West Coast she has performed in San Francisco at
The Plush Room, as well as the Jazz Bakery in Los Angeles and the
Vic in Santa Monica. She has appeared in Chicago at the Cultural
Center and at Park West. Her style has been described as both recognizably
traditional yet unmistakably contemporary. She can also be heard
on Art Lillard's latest big band recording REASONS TO BE THANKFUL.
There is a $15 cover, 2-beverage minimum.
