SPEAKEASY ONE NIGHT ONLY AT BIRDLAND
Broadway at Birdland, the Nightlife Award-winning series of Monday
night concerts featuring top theater stars and songwriters, is proud
to present SPEAKEASY on Monday, March 12th at 7:00 pm at BIRDLAND
(315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080 -
http://www.birdlandjazz.com/
). Presented by Jim Caruso and TheaterMania.com, the series is an
outgrowth of Cast Party, a weekly open-mic night catering to the Broadway,
cabaret and jazz crowds. Every Monday concert is followed by Cast
Party, an open mic night for the theater, jazz, and cabaret crowds.
In SPEAKEASY, the legendary jazz club Birdland transforms
into an old-school speakeasy with a new-fangled twist for one night
only. A host of Broadway's most unique personalities will take you
back to the days of Billie Holliday, Nina Simone and Bobby Short
with their private, lounge-inspired takes on songs by John Lennon,
Joni Mitchell, Rufus Wainwright, Stephin Merritt and more.
Featuring Lea DeLaria (On The Town), Kevin Cahoon
(The Wedding Singer, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, band Ghetto Cowboy),
Michael Winther (Songs From An Unmade Bed, Mamma Mia!), Lisa Jackson
(Lisa Jackson & Girl Friday), Adam Dugas (The Citizens Band), Kyle
Jarrow (A Very Merry Unauthorized Childrens Scientology Pageant,
Gorilla Man, band Fabulous Entourage) and Michael Conley (Hello
Boys!). The band will be made up of Michael Vecchio (Passerby),
Mike Jackson and Evan Tazner of The Citizens Band, and Dan Tepfer,
who won the 2006 First Prize at the Montreaux Jazz Festival's International
Bosendorfer Solo Piano Competition.
There will be a $25 cover, with a $10 food/drink minimum
per person.
