MAC ON THE MOVE WITH SEMINARS, BALLOTS, AD CAMPAIGN & AWARD
SHOW DATE
MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets) is back on track - promoting
the art of cabaret in the NYC area - and has announced plans and several
programs for 2007. According to MAC President Ricky Ritzel, it is
just the start of more amazing things to come. Plans even include
an advertising campaign featuring MAC performers.
Coming up in just a little more than a week is "Intimate
Nights," a MAC SEMINAR on the History of New York Nightlife. The
seminar will take place at THE BROADWAY COMEDY CLUB (318 West 53rd
Street, NYC - 212-757-2323) on Tuesday, February 27th at 6:00 pm.
The panel for this seminar includes authors James Gavin and Deborah
Grace Winer; performance educator Linda Amiel Burns; actress, producer,
and talk show host, Jamie deRoy; booking manager, performer and
MAC Board member Sidney Myer; and moderator Richard Skipper. The
cost of the seminar is free for MAC members and $10 for non-members.
The 2006 MAC AWARD preliminary ballots were mailed
out on Saturday, February 17th and should be available in all MAC
Member mailboxes in the next few days (no mail delivery today).
The results of this ballot will determine the actual MAC AWARD nominees
for shows performed in 2007 and those nominees will appear on the
final ballot. Unlike last year, all MAC members will be able to
vote on all categories on the final ballot.
The 21st ANNUAL MAC AWARDS will be presented at a
gala show on Tuesday, May 1st at BB KING'S BLUES CLUB (237 West
42nd Street, NYC - 212-997-4144 - http://www.bbkingsblues.com/
) - and unlike the past few years, this room has cabaret-style seating
with food and beverage service. Seating is limited, so watch the
MAC website (http://www.macnyc.com/
) for when and how tickets can be purchased. It should be a glorious
event - according to reports, members have been joining and re-joining
over the past few weeks, and this may be a tremendous milestone
show at the start of the 3rd decade of MAC AWARD galas.
In early June, the next MAC/ASCAP Songwriters' Showcase
will be held at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATER (407
West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909 - http://www.westbankcafe.com/theater/schedule
) - exact date to be announced.
And further down the road, the next MAC Seminar, "Cabaret
as Theatre, Theatre as Cabaret," moderated by board member Hector
Coris, will take place in the early spring - date and time to be
announced.
Meantime, MAC is looking for folks to help distribute
promotional materials around the city, as part of it's mandate "to
advance the art and business of live entertainment." MAC will also
be taking part in the annual BROADWAY CARES/EQUITY FIGHTS AIDS (http://www.bcefa.org/
) Flea Market to be held on September 23rd in Shubert Alley in the
theater district and will soon designate a collection place for
members to bring their donations for sale. More news on all the
events will be added to the MAC website (http://www.macnyc.com/
) as it develops.
