"TWO-DUETS ... MOSTLY" STARS BABBIE GREEN AND JOHN BOSWELL
Babbie Green and John Boswell bring their show "TWO-DUETS ... Mostly"
to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440
-
http://www.metropolitanroom.com/
) on Friday & Saturday, April 13 & 14th at 8:00 pm. The show is living
proof that the whole can be far greater than the sum of its excellent
parts. Having proved over the years that they play well with others,
this duo started working together in 2001, and it's obviously working
out well. Both of them pianists, singers, writers and actors, they
bring a rich and varied background to their cabaret act ... a gorgeous
blend of musical gifts, voices, humor and heart. Last September, the
CD of TWO was released and is the live version of same, with songs
by Green, Boswell and Green, Green and Gina Kronstadt, and Boswell
and Julie Last.
Babbie Green is the winner, along with Steven Lutvak,
of the first Johnny Mercer Songwriting Award, as well as the 1994
Bistro Award for Outstanding Songwriter. Her first CD was IN NOBODY'S
SHADOW and her second CD, SOLDIERS OF THE HEART, received a MAC
nomination for Multiple Artist Recording of the Year in 2001. She
brought her original cabaret act to NYC in 1991, but her songs had
preceeded her. They have been recorded and/or performed by Barbara
Brussell, Michael Feinstein, Brian Lane Green, Andrea Marcovicci,
Karen Mason, Amanda McBroom, Sharon McNight, Phillip Officer, Jay
Rogers, Margaret Whiting, among others. Green herself has performed
at Carnegie Hall; the 92 Street Y in the Lyrics and Lyricists Series
(The New Breed); Town Hall; the Smithsonian; the Chicago Humanities
Festivals; the O'Neill Center in Waterford, CN. (where she was a
master teacher for three seasons), and up and down the West Coast.
John Boswell was awarded the 1999 and 2000 GLAMA Award
for Male Artist of the year and Best Pop Instrumentalist, respectively;
and he has an international following for his seven cds on Hearts
Of Space Records. He wrote the music for the Cable Ace award-winning
"Kathy and Mo - The Dark Side" (HBO). One of the most sought after
musical directors on both coasts (Andy Williams, Judy Collins, Bob
Newhart, among the artists), he is also adored by screaming fans
for his alter ego, Johnny Niagra, paired with the fabulous Susie
("Hair Spray") Mosher as Pepper Cole, in the hilarious multi-media
musical extravangza, "Cashino", which was imported from the West
Coast to NY in March for monthly performances.
There is a $20 cover, 2-beverage minimum.
