CABARET NEWS - NEW YORK CITY

KRISTY CATES AT THE BEECHMAN MONDAY APRIL 23rd
THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATER (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909 - http://www.westbankcafe.com/theater/schedule ) is pleased to continue the exciting new series: Voices from the Great White Way. This new series features some of the most thrilling voices from Broadway in our intimate venue located in the heart of New York's Theatre District. On Monday, April 23rd at 7:00 pm the club welcomes the marvelous Kristy Cates. Kristy is a member of the original Broadway cast of Wicked, and recently returned from a year in Chicago where she played the famous green girl from Oz herself, nightly at the Oriental Theatre.

Kristy is best known for playing the role of Elphaba in the smash hit musical, Wicked. She made her Broadway debut as a member of the original Broadway cast. Kristy was the original understudy to Idina Menzel, and filled in for an injured Stephanie Block for several weeks in Toronto, the first stop of the Wicked National Tour. Recently, Kristy returned to New York, following a nearly twelve month run as Elphaba in the Chicago production of the mega-hit. Other New York credits include Princess Ida and her acclaimed portrayal of Ruth Wallis in the off-Broadway production of Boobs! The Musical. Kristy has also appeared at the St. Louis MUNY, The Lucille Lortel White Barn Theatre, North Bay Opera, The Playhouse on the Green and The Eugene O'Neill Theatre Conference.

As a singer, Kristy has appeared at a number of nightlife hotspots, including Don't Tell Mama, The Duplex Cabaret Theatre, The Producer's Club, Joe's Pub, XL, The Triad and Therapy. She was also honored to sing the National Anthem for the Chicago Bears, Bulls and White Sox. In January of 2007, Kristy was proud to present a series of sold out solo concerts at Metropolis Performing Arts Center in Arlington Heights, IL. Kristy is a proud graduate of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music where she was the first recipient of the Laurie Beechman Scholarship Award.

There is a $20 cover charge, as well as a $15 food/beverage minimum.
