CABARET NEWS - NEW YORK CITY

LINA KOUTRAKOS CONTINUES WITH ACCLAIMED "TORCH" SHOW
2007 MAC AWARD nominee, singer/songwriter Lina Koutrakos returns to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 - http://www.metropolitanroom.com/ ) on Saturday, May 5th at 11:00 pm with her acclaimed show "Torch." Ms. Koutrakos is a "diva for the ages." Her music, rooted in both a nomadic childhood and Greek heritage, presents us with an artist whose voice is alive with a cultural intimacy we didn't know existed until we experience her incredible talent. She sings with amazing spirit, extraordinary energy, and perhaps most exciting of all, a joyous celebration that will rock your soul.

Lina's powerful band weaves their way from world pop through southern rock to gospel blues in a musical tapestry that has played to rave reviews in most of the top venues throughout Manhattan. Lina has been featured in The New York Times, Billboard Magazine, Mode and Soap Opera Digest in addition to hundreds of rave, high profile reviews and interviews in many of New York City's major periodicals. The band has garnered fans the likes of Meryl Streep, Kathleen Turner, Tom Hanks and the late Gregory Hines.

In the process of signing with a label and recording her second album, the independent debut CD - Leave A Little Something - has sold thousands of copies. Lina's original material is being played on Television nation wide and Radio stations throughout the world, most notably the BBC. Her unique, emotive voice was featured in the critically acclaimed America Undercover HBO documentary "Telling Nicholas". She wraps up this moving 9/11 film with her own sensitive and flawless rendition of its heartrending closing theme song.

Koutrakos was chosen out of hundreds of her peers to be part of ASCAP's Advanced Songwriting Workshop and has received accolades on a handful of her original pop/rock songs. The hauntingly sentimental duet "For Now" (a collaborative effort with D.Gross and J. Rodgers) was given a Certificate of Merit from American Songwriter Magazine this past year. As a lyricist, Lina's words become the paintings that allow us an all too brief, nearly visual glimpse into her inner soul and her melodies are spun into "hooks" that leave you singing them over and over. She is the recipient of the Manhattan Assoc. Clubs and Cabaret award, the Village Voice Award for Best Rock Newcomer, and France's prestigious Petite Piaf Award all for Best Female Vocalist.

There is a $20 cover plus a 2 beverage minimum.
