MAC/ASCAP SONGWRITER'S SHOWCASE JUNE 6TH
The next MAC/ASCAP Songwriter's Showcase hosted by Jamie deRoy and
featuring special guest for the evening, composer & lyricist Carol
Hall will take place on Wednesday, June 6th at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE
BEECHMAN THEATER (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909 -

). Other guests appearing will be writing partners Robert Maddock
& Joe Iconis and writing partners Benj Pasek & Justin Paul all of
whom are Jonathan Larson Award recipiants, plus Steve Silverstein
and Ruth Williamson.
Carol Hall is one of the few theatre people to write
both music and lyrics. She received two Drama Desk Awards for her
score and lyrics to The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. This theatre
classic delighted audiences for almost five years on Broadway, received
a Grammy nomination for its cast album, and became a film starring
Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton.
Parton's recording of Hall's song "Hard Candy Christmas"
won an ASCAP Award for being one of its "Most Performed Country
Songs." A recent national tour of Whorehouse, starring entertainment
legend Ann-Margret, enjoyed a run for over a year and a half. Other
stage work includes the Off-Broadway musical To Whom It May Concern,
individual songs for AŁ My Name is Alice and AŁ My Name is Still
Alice, and a new musical, Hats!, based on the Red Hats Society,
which just opened a third company in Chicago.
Hall was a major composer/lyricist to Marlo Thomas'
Peabody and Emmy Award-winning TV Special and gold album "Free to
Be... You and Me," and its sequel, "Free to Be... A Family," as
well as being a mainstay writer for "Sesame Street" for ten years.
She is presently writing the score for the popular children's series
"Max and Ruby."
Her cabaret work has earned her two Bistro and MAC
Awards, one of them the 2003 MAC Song of the Year, "I Dream In Technicolor."
She also received the prestigious Johnny Mercer Award, given for
contributions to the American Song book.
Carol enjoys collaborating with other writers, and
has contributed either music or lyrics to songs written with Bill
Evans, Lesley Gore, Michelle Brourman, Shelly Markham, Phyllis Newman,
Tex Arnold and Steven Lutvak. Her songs have been performed by,
among others, Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett, Barbara Cook, Margaret
Whiting, Julie Wilson, Chita Rivera, Michael Feinstein, Mabel Mercer,
Amanda McBroom, Lari White, Olivia Newton-John, Maureen McGovern,
RuPaul, Frederica von Stade, and Kermit the Frog.
