MAC/ASCAP SONGWRITER'S SHOWCASE JUNE 6TH
The next MAC/ASCAP Songwriter's Showcase hosted by Jamie deRoy and featuring special guest for the evening, composer & lyricist Carol Hall will take place on Wednesday, June 6th at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATER (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909 - http://www.westbankcafe.com/theater/schedule ). Other guests appearing will be writing partners Robert Maddock & Joe Iconis and writing partners Benj Pasek & Justin Paul all of whom are Jonathan Larson Award recipiants, plus Steve Silverstein and Ruth Williamson.

Carol Hall is one of the few theatre people to write both music and lyrics. She received two Drama Desk Awards for her score and lyrics to The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. This theatre classic delighted audiences for almost five years on Broadway, received a Grammy nomination for its cast album, and became a film starring Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton.

Parton's recording of Hall's song "Hard Candy Christmas" won an ASCAP Award for being one of its "Most Performed Country Songs." A recent national tour of Whorehouse, starring entertainment legend Ann-Margret, enjoyed a run for over a year and a half. Other stage work includes the Off-Broadway musical To Whom It May Concern, individual songs for AŁ My Name is Alice and AŁ My Name is Still Alice, and a new musical, Hats!, based on the Red Hats Society, which just opened a third company in Chicago.

Hall was a major composer/lyricist to Marlo Thomas' Peabody and Emmy Award-winning TV Special and gold album "Free to Be... You and Me," and its sequel, "Free to Be... A Family," as well as being a mainstay writer for "Sesame Street" for ten years. She is presently writing the score for the popular children's series "Max and Ruby."

Her cabaret work has earned her two Bistro and MAC Awards, one of them the 2003 MAC Song of the Year, "I Dream In Technicolor." She also received the prestigious Johnny Mercer Award, given for contributions to the American Song book.

Carol enjoys collaborating with other writers, and has contributed either music or lyrics to songs written with Bill Evans, Lesley Gore, Michelle Brourman, Shelly Markham, Phyllis Newman, Tex Arnold and Steven Lutvak. Her songs have been performed by, among others, Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett, Barbara Cook, Margaret Whiting, Julie Wilson, Chita Rivera, Michael Feinstein, Mabel Mercer, Amanda McBroom, Lari White, Olivia Newton-John, Maureen McGovern, RuPaul, Frederica von Stade, and Kermit the Frog.

Admission is free for members of MAC and only $10 for guests.
