Janine Alondres returns to HELEN'S RESTAURANT, CABARET & PIANO LOUNGE

) for four performances, on Thursday, May 31st, Friday & Saturday
June 1st & 2nd and Thursday & Friday June 7th & 8th, all shows at
7:00 pm. Musical directors are James Weidman and Shelly Markham. Janine
will be joined on stage by James Weidman on piano, Paul Beaudry on
bass and Victor Jones on drums. The show features songs from the 60s
from Peggy Lee to Burt Bacarach to Paul Simon and more.
Ms. Alondres' achievements have included performing
at San Francisco's premier showroom, The Plush Room; She has al;so
appeared in NYC at EightyEight's, Danny's Skylight Room and The
Hideaway Room at Helen's. She has been invited to sing the "Star
Spangled Banner" at a number of professional sports venues for teams
such as the San Francisco Giants, the Los Angeles Lakers and the
California Angels. Ms. Alondres has also performed at Lincoln Center?s
Avery Fisher Hall in New York for a corporate event, and has been
a special guest performer at various charity fundraisers.
Her first album "Dreams Come True" won the 2004 "Hawaii
Music Award" for the Adult Contemporary Album of the year category.
Ms. Alondres studied Opera at California State University,
Long Beach, where she became interested in jazz standards. While
at Cal-State, she was a member of the University choir, which was
under the direction of Frank Pooler who discovered The Carpenters.
In 1992, Ms. Alondres came to New York to follow her musical dreams.
She studied at the Eugene O'Neil Theatre Center in Waterford, Connecticut,
where she had the privilege of studying with well-respected performers
such as Margaret Whiting, Julie Wilson and Anne Francine. Ms. Alondres
is inspired by a number of female artists including Ella Fitzgerald,
Diane Schurr, Dionne Warwick, Lena Horne, Barbra Streisand, Ann
Hampton Callaway, Diana Krall, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, and
Nancy Wilson.
NY based pianist James Weidman is indisputably one
of the world's top sidemen. Over the years he has played and recorded
with musicians as diverse as Max Roach, Woody Herman, Archie Shepp,
James Moody, Greg Osby, Slide Hampton, Jay Hoggard, Marvin "Smitty"
Smith, Gloria Lynne and blues diva Dakota Staton.
There is a $20 Cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.
