In the fifth installment of the DGUR Concert series,
in celebration of the beginning of Gay Pride Week in NYC, David
Gurland and the Laurie Beechman Theatre will present an evening
of songs made famous by the incomparable Judy Garland. In the great
tradition of other out artists, like Rufus Wainwright, the evening
will cover songs from Judy's films as well as her concert appearances,
both obscure numbers and Judy classics.
In addition to David, The evening will also feature
appearances by three of the New York's cabaret most talented and
versatile singers, Award winners Brandon Cutrell, Brian Farley,
and Rob Maitner. Previous DGUR Concerts, covering the worlds of
Country Music, Show Tunes, 70s and 80s pop, and the Madonna oeuvre
have been wildly successful. The evening will be musically directed
by Ray Fellman.
Proceeds from this concert will go to Classical Action,
a fundraising program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS which
draws upon the talents, resources and generosity of the performing
arts community to raise vitally needed funds for AIDS-related services
across the United States.
Gurland, who hails from New York City, has won a place
as one of the most formidable openly gay singers in New York's music
scene. Channeling cabaret experience and instincts into his pop/rock
shows, Gurland merges talent, presence and humor, into an unforgettable
entertainment experience. Gurland's accolades include 5 MAC Award
nominations, the MAC/Hanson Award, a Gay and Lesbian American Music
Award Nomination, and three Bistro Awards, one of which recognized
his first CD, released in 1999 to rave reviews. Critics have raved
about both Gurland's voice and his stage manner. David has been
seen at The Cutting Room, The Bitter End, Town Hall, CB's Gallery,
The Living Room, Don't Tell Mama, The Duplex, and The Metropolitan
Room, as well as out of town venues like Odettes in New Hope, The
Gardenia in LA, the Manor in NJ and Twiggs in San Diego.
Ray Fellman recently made his Off-Broadway debut when
he was handpicked by Stephen Schwartz to musical direct his off-Broadway
musical, Captain Louie. Other Musical Director credits include The
Tutor by Wood/Gerle (59 E. 59th), Reluctant Pilgrim (The Barrow
Group), Blood Drive: A Musical Triptych by Sheinkin/Derfner (workshop
at the O'Neill Theater Center) and Amahl and the Night Visitors
(national tour directed by David Aiken). Ray has been seen behind
the piano in The Storefront Theatre's New Mondays (with Bill Russell
and Emily Skinner), No Reservations (starring Brandon Cutrell with
special guests Karen Mason and Shoshana Bean), Broadway Downtown
(with Kristy Cates) and We Miss Nancy: The Storefront Sings Lamott
(with Liz McCartney). He has also served as accompanist for Utah
Festival Opera Company, The Opera Company of Brooklyn, Mid America
Productions at Carnegie Hall (with John Rutter) and A Yuletide Celebration
with the Indianapolis Symphony starring Judy Kaye. As a singer,
Ray has sung with some of the finest opera companies in the country,
including Florida Grand, Glimmerglass and New Orleans operas. Ray
holds degrees in piano and voice from the Indiana University School
of Music. Ray is the proud recipient of a 2007 Bistro Award on behalf
of his work for The After Party at The Laurie Beechman Theatre.
Brandon Cutrell is a Bistro Award and two-time MAC
Award winner. New York credits: Broadway By The Year at Town Hall,
The 2nd Annual Broadway Unplugged at Town Hall, Pippin (with Ben
Vereen and Rosie O'Donnell), La Gioconda at TheatreSource, David
Friedman's King Island Christmas, and Liz Swados' Waiting For Lefty.
National: Theatre of the Stars, Goodspeed Musicals, the Human Race
Theatre and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. For nearly two years,
Brandon was the original host of the MAC Award nominated show, Mostly
Sondheim. In December of 2005, Brandon made his debut in the world-famous
Oak Room at The Algonquin Hotel. In June of 2006, Brandon made his
solo debut at Feinstein's, New York's legendary nightclub on Park
Avenue. Currently, Brandon can be seen every Friday night at The
Laurie Beechman Theatre on 42nd Street as the host of The After
Party, a weekly open-mic, musical theatre soiree. Brandon's self-titled
debut cd will be released on June 4th at FEINSTEIN'S at the Regency

Brian Farley has been living and performing in New
York for 10 years.He has performed around the country regionally
as Tony in West Side Story, Che in Evita, and the Dentist in Little
Shop of Horrors, among others. In NYC he starred in the Fringe Festival
Production of Principia, and has performed for President and Senator
Clinton in Picasso at the Lapin Agile. In 2004 he created 'The Farley
Brothers,' an act he performs with his brother. In 2006 Brian was
nominated for a New York City Nightlife Award, a MAC Award, and
won a Backstage Bistro Award for his work in "The Farley Brothers:
From Here to Fraternity.' Most recently he made his solo cabaret
debut in 'Brian Farley:By Myself - a show about singing alone, being
alone and ultimately the realization that no one is alone. It featured
beautiful renditions of over a dozen songs from Irving Berlin to
Alanis Morissette. Brian holds a BFA in Musical theatre from Syracuse
University.
Rob Maitner, a popular actor in the downtown theatre
scene, Rob Maitner has created roles in several landmark productions
including Mr. McQueen in the world premiere of URINETOWN! THE MUSICAL
at the New York International Fringe Festival, as well as the role
of Dim in the New York premiere of Anthony Burgess' A CLOCKWORK
ORANGE, Rob received a FringeNYC performance award for his acclaimed
turn as Shannon in Brad Faser's POOR SUPER MAN. Other credits include
a revival of Steve Martin's PICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE, which he
performed for President and Senator Clinton. In the Summer of 2005,
Rob played John the Baptist in CORPUS CHRISTI at the Jean Cocteau
Rep, as well as the leading role in the hit NY International Fringe
Festival blockbuster FLEET WEEK. Regionally he has appeared at Cape
May Stages, Orlando Shakespeare Festival, and Pennsylvania Shakespeare
Festival. A Bistro Award winning singer, he is working on bringing
back is enormously successful Disney romp, 'The Misadventures of
Robbie Maitner.'
