METROPOLITAN ROOM WELCOMES BACK MARILYN MAYE
The powerhouse singer and entertainer Marilyn May returns to THE METROPOLITAN
ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 -

) to premiere two shows this fall. From September 12th to 23rd Ms.
Maye interprets music performed and recorded by one of her favorites,
Ray Charles. From November 7th to 19th she delves into a treasure
trove of material relating to her numerous appearances on "The Tonight
Show starring Johnny Carson."
"Maye Sings Ray and More!" with Billy Stritch on piano,
plays a total of 13 performances during two consecutive weeks, Wednesdays
through Sundays, September 12th to 23rd, with shows at 7:30 pm (two
shows on Sundays at 7:00 & 9:30 pm with on show added on Monday,
September 17th at 7:30 pm). Scaling the vocal heights with a high-energy,
free-ranging song list, Maye mixes Charles classics and showstoppers
with a number of rarities and eye-opening surprises.
A Kansas City native, Maye was nominated for a best
new artist Grammy in 1965, going up against Herman's Hermits, Sonny
& Cher, Horst Jankowski and The Byrds. (Tom Jones won!). An RCA
recording artist who introduced numerous hits including "Cabaret,"
"Step to the Rear," "Sherry," "Too Late Now," and "If My Friends
Could See Me Now" (to name a few), Maye was a staple on "The Tonight
Show," appearing 76 times in all.
The cover charge is $30 with a 2-beverage minimum.
