27th at 5:00 pm. After a successful run at the newly opened Live at
Courthouse Jazz Club in Toronto this past June, Mary Foster Conklin
and Canadian singer George Evans reunite to share their collective
passion for city life after dark in an evening of songs by Quincy
Jones, Peggy Lee, Dave Frishberg, Curtis Lewis, Johnny Mercer, Sammy
Cahn, Joni Mitchell, Benny Carter and many more.
A celebrated performer on the New York jazz and cabaret
scene, Mary Foster Conklin was a longtime vocalist with Art Lillard's
15-piece Heavenly Band, and she can be heard on his latest recording
"Reasons to Be Thankful", on Summit Records. She is a three-time
MAC Award winner, a three-time Backstage Bistro Award winner, and
recipient of 2007 MAC Award for Jazz Recording of the Year for her
tribute to Matt Dennis, "Blues for Breakfast" on Rhombus Records.
Recognized as one of the foremost interpreters of
vocal jazz and standards on the Canadian scene, George Evans has
been celebrated diversely as "a ballad's best friend" and "an agile
voice and always swinging". A two-time National Jazz Awards nominee
as "Vocalist of the Year," George Evans has recorded seven projects
as a leader. His latest album, "Bewitched" is in rotation on Canadian
network jazz radio, and the forthcoming "Live At The Cellar" is
hotly anticipated. Praised for lively, polished performances in
major cities such as Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver, Evans tours
actively and last appeared in New York in May of 2006 at Danny's
Grand Sea Palace. This season finds him launching a tour of four
Asian cities, opening New Year's Eve with a headline engagement
in HongKong.
There is a $20 cover plus a 2-beverage minimum.
