LUBA MASON BRINGS THE COLLAGE TOUR TO NYC
Broadway star of HOW TO SUCCEED..., THE CAPEMAN, JEKYLL & HYDE, CHICAGO
and more will perform at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street,
NYC - 212-206-0440 -
http://www.metropolitanroom.com/
) on Friday through Monday, November 23rd through 26th at 10:00 pm
with songs from her debut CD Collage. She will be accompanied by the
Ed Alstrom Trio. The Collage collection is a labor of love for Luba,
a native New Yorker, who spent her early youth devoted to training
in classical voice, piano and dance.
The CD, produced by the legendary Jeffrey Lesser (Barbra
Streisand, Lord of the Rings) and available in stores now, features
Luba's soulful imprint on 14 tracks of pop classics by George Harrison,
Neil Diamond, Van Morrison, Lou Reed, Elvis Costello and Ruben Blades,
who also joins her for a rendition of Johnny Nash's "I Can See Clearly
Now."
The early artistic passion of Luba, a first generation
American, born to Slovak parents, paid off, with her early acceptance
to the Circle In The Square Theatre School and New York University's
Tisch School of the Arts.
Luba quickly gained notice from her peers and the
industry alike. She was tapped by Ruben Blades as a guest vocalist
on his 2003 Grammy Award-winning CD Mundo, for which she earned
critical acclaim. Legendary rock artist Lou Reed, who Luba covers
with her rendition of Reed's "The Calm Before the Storm," a post-9/11
commentary. Earlier this year, Mason was a featured guest on the
new NBC primetime series, RAINES opposite Jeff Goldblum.
Luba most recently starred on Broadway in the musical
Chicago as Velma Kelly. Previously, Luba earned starring roles on
Broadway in Jekyll & Hyde, How To Succeed In Business Without Really
Trying (opposite Matthew Broderick), Paul Simon's The Capeman, Trevor
Nunn's Sunset Boulevard and the Tony winning The Will Rogers Follies,
directed by Tommy Tune.
Recently, she starred opposite Val Kilmer in the American
premiere of The Ten Commandments at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.
She is also no stranger to cabaret, having performed in sold out
shows at Los Angeles' famed Cinegrill as well as Opia and Cafe Versilles
of New York in 2006. The Collage Tour has played several cities
this summer including recent performances at Catalina Jazz Club
in L.A. three performances of Collage at EXIT Theatre in San Francisco
and two nights at Davenport's in Chicago.
Drawing from her Slovak roots, classical training,
Broadway background and integrated pop, jazz and Latin rhythms's
sensibility, Luba Mason has created a debut recording that accurately
reflects the highly eclectic nature of the artist herself. Collage
is a musical hybrid perfected for the new millennium.
