THE LADY AND THE LEGEND: A MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO LIONEL HAMPTON
Out of Sight Music is proud to announce the debut of a new one woman show featuring Sylvia Bennett. Entitled 'The Lady and the Legend,' international recording artist and Grammy Finalist Sylvia Bennett will transport her audience back in time to reminisce about the life and music of jazz legend Lionel Hampton. The show will debut on March 21st at THE WHITE PLAINS PERFORMING ARTS CENTER (11 City Place, White Plains, NY - 914-328-1600 - http://www.wppac.com/ ) to benefit the Xavier University of Louisiana Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund (http://meetings.informs.org/NO2005/katrina.htm ). Cocktails are at 6:30 pm and the performance begins at 7:30 pm.

This musical documentary features a presentation of songs by Ms. Bennett with Lionel Hampton accompanying her via the magic of video technology. The One Woman Show features never before seen footage of Ms. Bennett sharing private and public moments over the years as performed and recorded with Lionel Hampton and is based on Bennett's recently released tribute CD/DVD, 'There Will Never Be Another You.'

Giant of the jazz world and king of the vibraphone Lionel Hampton, and the silken-voiced songstress Sylvia Bennett, have made some wonderful magic together. Sylvia became the first women to record with Hampton in 30 years. Their album, "Sentimental Journey" on Atlantic Records, was a Grammy finalist in 1987. The lady and the legend toured together and even became known as presidential favorites, having performed together at the inaugurations of Presidents Ronald Reagan and George Bush.

People have tried to compare Sylvia Bennett's voice to other great singers of the past and present. But perhaps late great jazz legend Lionel Hampton described Sylvia best when he said, "Man, the lady can sing! Her magic gets to the ears and hearts of the audience. Sylvia is truly an original!"

Bennett has performed with the late Bob Hope, Phyllis Diller, Jerry Van Dyke, Rita Moreno, David Brenner, Jackie Mason, Dizzy Gillespie, Cab Calloway, Dick Clark, Barry Gibb and Jose Luis Rodriguez (El Puma).

Tickets are $100 for the reception and performance and $75 for the performance only.
