THREE CANADIAN LYRIC TENORS, ROMANZA, MAKE THEIR BAY AREA DEBUT
In celebration of the hotel's centennial anniversary, THE FAIRMONT SAN
FRANCISCO (950 Mason Street, SF - 415-772-5204 - http://www.fairmont.com/sanfrancisco/
), in collaboration with Bay Area Cabaret and San Francisco Opera's
BRAVO! CLUB, will revive THE VENETIAN ROOM as a supper club with a program
of opera, pop and musical theatre by Canadian tenors Romanza on April
28th from 7:00 to 10:00 pm. This unforgettable evening will showcase
the talents of Canada's classically trained young tenors; Philip Grant,
Ken Lavigne and Frederik Robert; who have each enjoyed rave reviews
performing as soloists with symphony orchestras, opera and light opera
companies across Canada and the United States.
Performing together as Romanza in their Bay Area debut,
the charismatic tenors will captivate the audience with a varied program,
accompanied by violin, double bass and piano. Fast becoming leaders
of a "popera" movement amidst groups like Il Divo, Josh Groban, and
Andrea Bocelli, Romanza seeks to make opera more accessible through
its contemporary, upbeat vision and original arrangements.
During its reign as the West Coast's premier supper
club from 1947 through 1989, The Venetian Room featured legendary
performers such as Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Peggy Lee, Nat King
Cole, Marlene Dietrich, Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald, Tina Turner and
Count Basie. It was on The Venetian Room stage that Tony Bennett first
sang "I Left My Heart In San Francisco" in 1962.
The evening will be co-presented by Bay Area Cabaret,
a local non-profit run by Marilyn Levinson (niece of the late James
Schwabacher), which has presented Barbara Cook, Ann Hampton Callaway,
Patricia Racette, Amanda McBroom, Karen Mason, Marin Mazzie and Maureen
McGovern (upcoming on May 6, 2007 at the Marines Memorial Commandants
Room).
The one-time-only event will feature a champagne reception
and a delectable three-course dinner paired with California wines
for $140 per person inclusive of tax, tip and cover. For reservations,
