DIVERSE HARMONY WELCOMES ALEXANDRA BILLINGS TO SEATTLE
Diverse Harmony, the nation‰s first gay-straight alliance youth chorus,
joins with Alexandra Billings, famous actress of both stage and screen,
to present [Insert Title Here], an evening of songs and entertainment
at THE BROADWAY PERFORMANCE HALL (1625 Broadway, Seattle,WA - 206-325-6000
- http://www.TicketWindow.com/
) on Saturday, June 2nd, with performances at 2:00 and 8:00 pm. At the
end of their fifth season, Diverse Harmony is eager to present this
show filled new and exciting pieces.
In the summer of 2006, Diverse Harmony performed with
Alexandra in Chicago during the Gay Games. The experience was spectacular,
and they have decided to join forces again in the chorus‰s hometown
of Seattle.
The members of Diverse Harmony and Alexandra have always
dealt with labels like "youth", "gay" and "transgendered" not to mention
"queer", "homo" and "dyke". For this show, the members of Diverse
Harmony wanted to strip away all of the labels and the preconceptions
that come with them. Embracing the idea of a label-free concert, they
decided to call the show "[Insert Title Here]" hoping that the audience
could also look past the labels to see the singers for who they are
and absorb their performances as they happen.
This time, the members of Diverse Harmony chose the
content for the performance, leading to a fresh, youthful, fun show.
For [Insert Title Here], Diverse Harmony branches out to include spoken
word, drama, and parody. At one point, a clarinet will flirt with
a flute. Throughout the concert Alexandra Billings will be performing
as well. Her exciting blend of musical theatre and jazz songs will
be sure to dazzle even the most jaded audience member.
Alexandra Billings has performed on stages across the
nation for years, recently moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career
in television and film. Her performances are always fabulous, and
She has won many awards including a GLAAD award for her guest star
role on Grey's Anatomy. Beyond performing, Alexandra is active in
the GLBT community, and recently Mayor Richard Daily presented her
with the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame Award.
Diverse Harmony formed in 2003 to give young people
a place to be themselves, away from the pressures of the outside world.
The organization encourages the celebration of differences in ourselves,
our homes, and our communities. Through music, the group forms an
accepting community and attempts to make the world a better place.
