ANDREA MARCOVICCI RELEASES HER FIRST-EVER CHRISTMAS CD
Andrea Marcovicci showcases her tender and evocative singing on her
first ever holiday recording "My Christmas Song For You" this fall.
Released in conjunction with her 20th anniversary season at the famed
THE ALGONQUIN OAK ROOM (59 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-840-6800 ext.
171 - http://www.algonquinhotel.com/
), "My Christmas Song For You," captures both the magic and the melancholy
of the holiday season.
The disc features an all-star lineup of players including
musical director Shelly Markham on piano, Bucky Pizzarelli on guitar,
Warren VachÌ on cornet, Jered Egan on bass, Michael Migliori on reeds,
and Rex Benincasa on drums and percussion. Mr. Markham has provided
arrangements that are lush and warm, but with an abundance of fresh
ideas to give them a modern sensibility. Released through Andreasong,
Ms. Marcovicci's own recording label, the CD is available as an exclusive
offering on her website, http://www.marcovicci.com/
.
A celebration of the holiday spirit as well as an exploration
of the American Popular song, "My Christmas Song for You" features
secular classics like "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting...),"
"Silver Bells," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," "White Christmas"
and "Winter Wonderland," in addition to traditional holiday fare like
"Silent Night" and "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day," the latter
Andrea's homage to the famed Christmas perennial from Bing Crosby.
"Blue Champagne," a lilting ballad popularized in the
Big Band Era and recorded by name bands like Glen Miller and Jimmy
Dorsey, is given a lush and sentimental reading. "The Gift," an original
ballad written by Adryan Russ and Brad Ellis, adds a romantic contemporary
feel to the CD.
A special highlight is a medley of holiday treasures
that Andrea has unearthed: "Christmas Lullaby," a rarely-heard seasonal
composition with lyrics by legendary singer Peggy Lee and music by
award-winning theater composer Cy Coleman, is heard alongside "All
Through The Night," a seasonal folk ballad Andrea discovered in her
mother's record collection.
