PAULA WEST CELEBRATES THE SEPTEMBER 25th RELEASE OF "COME WHAT MAY"

Includes Performances On Both Coasts - Return Engagements to San Francisco 's Plush Room September 25th through October 21st and New York City's Oak Room October 3rd through December 1st.

San Francisco-based vocalist Paula West has captured the hearts of critics and audiences alike from coast to coast. Now, following West's two acclaimed releases on Noir Records, "Temptation" (1995) and "Restless" (1999), comes her first album on Hi Horse Records due to be released on September 25th, "Come What May." Along with an opportunity to experience the new album, those in San Francisco will be treated to Paula's return engagement at THE PLUSH ROOM at the York Hotel (940 Sutter Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-885-2800 - http://www.plushroom.com/), September 25th through October 21st. In addition, New Yorkers will have the opportunity to experience the jazz vocal sensation when she revisits the world famous ALGONQUIN OAK ROOM (59 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-840-6800 - http://www.algonquinhotel.com/) from October 30th through December 1st. For these five weeks in New York City, Paula will be joined by the jazz talents of The Bruce Barth Trio, The Bill Charlap Trio, The Mulgrew Miller Trio, and the Eric Reed Trio.

Providing accompaniment perfectly synchronized with Paula's moving delivery on the new release is an all-star cast of jazz masters including Bobby Hutcherson, Bill Charlap, Ken Muir, Frank Wess, Don Byron, Ken Peplowski, Joe Temperley, John Blake, Peter Bernstein, Peter Washington and Victor Lewis. With interpretive sensitivity, the musicians complement Paula's natural approach.

Known and respected for her creative and distinctive repertoire, Paula West enchants us on "Come What May" with such songs as Oscar Brown's funk fable "The Snake," Duke Ellington's Latin Jazz and Middle Eastern tinged "Caravan" and David Raksin and Johnny Mercer's "Laura." Also on the CD are Ray Henderson and Ort Dixon's "Bye Bye Blackbird" (with Bobby Hutcherson and Joe Temperley lending solos on vibes and baritone sax) and Gershwin's "Looking for a Boy."

Paula West is known for adding her own depth and drama to whichever song she chooses for the moment. "In the end" she explains, "it's just getting the story across. It's not about some fancy little trill or something. To me the words are the most important thing."

Musical from the beginning, Paula West grew up in San Diego as one of four children, each of whom played an instrument; Paula's was the clarinet. In college she began listening to jazz singers such as Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Peggy Lee, Maxine Sullivan, and Julie London realizing that her dream was to belong to the group of legends. Venturing into jam sessions, she had the good fortune to join musical forces with the talented pianist Ken Muir who has stayed with her ever since. Paula also studied with Faith Winthrop who helped bring out Paula's unique delivery.
