Bistro and MAC-Award Winner Audrey Lavine Announces New CD and Fall Appearances

Following her critically acclaimed first CD, "This Is No Dream," Audrey Lavine's new CD, "At Home With Arlen," will be released this September. For Arlen devotees the recording showcases Audrey's special way with a rich variety of familiar and unfamiliar Arlen tunes. For cabaret fans, "At Home With Arlen" captures the essence of Audrey's successful show of the same name, which she will reprise at JUDY'S CHELSEA (169 Eighth Avenue, NYC - 212-929-5410 - http://www.judyschelsea.com/) on Mondays, September 30th through October 21st 8:30 pm.

"At Home with Arlen" celebrates a composer whose career spanned more than 50 years and 400 songs, from the Cotton Club to Hollywood and back to Broadway. Arlen brings a singer's sensibility to his compositions; his melodic lines derive from an appreciation of not only what is possible for a singer, but also what helps a singer convey power, tenderness and emotion.

Audrey's affinity for Arlen has been evident since 1977, when her appearances in the Citicorp Salute to Great American Songwriters prompted John S. Wilson of the New York Times to write, "The songs of Harold Arlen cover such a wide range of style and content that almost any singer can find a number ... that suit his or her style. However, for one singer to cover all the facets is a very demanding assignment. Yet that is what is being done by Audrey Lavine ... a rare talent."

With an expressiveness and dramatic range honed in part during her Broadway years as standby to such luminary performers as Barbara Cook, Betty Buckley, Teresa Stratas and Judy Kaye, Lavine is a master at blending undiscovered treasures with familiar standards.

Audrey is joined on "At Home With Arlen" by her long-time music director, Ross Patterson, along with bassist Don Falzone, and drummer Eric Halvorson, who together provided the instrumental accompaniment for the popular Broadway by the Year series at Town Hall. Featured on flute, alto, and clarinet are Aaron Heick (heard on recent recordings by Richard Bona and Bakithi Kumalo), and Jerry Dodgion (known to jazz fans from his work with Benny Goodman, Oliver Nelson, Thad Jones - Mel Lewis, and many others).
