MARILYN MAYE PLAYS METROPOLITAN ROOM APRIL 8th THROUGH 16th
Marilyn Maye celebrates her birthday with a new show "It's My Party...
and I'll Sing 'Cause I Want To," at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West
22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 -
http://www.metropolitanroom.com/
) which runs from April 8th through April 16th. In seven performances
Maye, who turns 80 during the run, has concocted an evening of her
favorite songs from her favorite songwriters. The show features the
backing of Billy Stritch on piano, Jim Eklof on drums and Tom Hubbard
on bass. Performances are as follows: Tuesday & Wednesday April 8th
& 9 that 7:30 pm; Friday, April 11th at 10:00 pm; and Sunday through
Wednesday, April 13th, 14th, 15th & 16th, all at 9:30 pm.
THE METROPOLITAN ROOM has presented Maye in three
different shows, which bowed in March, September and November of
last year. A pure proponent of the brassy yet elegant nightclub
style that once was the hallmark of large New York rooms and the
best clubs in Vegas, Maye has amazed a growing number of critics
with her seemingly undiminished abilities.
A Kansas City native and resident, Maye was nominated
for a best new artist Grammy in 1965. She appeared a total of 76
times on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" (the most appearances
by a singer).
There is a $30 cover plus a $15 minimum.
