NYC: BIG NIGHT OUT PRESENTS 1930's IDOL OPEN MIC CONTEST
On Wednesday, August 20th, to celebrate the 115th birthday of Dorothy Parker, Jennifer Wren's BIG NIGHT OUT, in conjunction with the Dorothy Parker Society (
http://www.dorothyparker.com/ ), will host an 1930's Idol: Big Night Out Celebrates Dorothy Parker at THE CHICAGO CITY LIMITS ROOM at BROADWAY BABY BISTRO & PIANO LOUNGE (318 West 53rd Street, NYC - 212-757-5808 -
http://www.broadwaybabybistro.com/ ) starting at 10:00 pm. There is no cover charge, no minimum. Sign up for the contest began on Aug 1st on the Big Night Out official website,

The evening will feature an open mic contest featuring 20 singing contestants performing songs from the 1920's and 1930's and competing for prizes. Performance will be rated by a panel of judges including Kevin Fitzpatrick, the Founder and President of the Dorothy Parker Society, and two other industry professionals. In addition to the grand prize winner, there will be an "Audience Favorite" selected by the audience. Participants and audience members will be encouraged to dress in period style and "party like its 1929."
BIG NIGHT OUT is a unique and supportive environment for performers and composers of all backgrounds to come together and perform the music that they love. Participants, with the help of resident musical director William "Bill" Zeffiro, are encouraged to try out new material, sing the roles that they aspire to play, sing the roles they will never play, or just show off for the joy of it.
